ive always mainly used pot calls and mouth calls, but after all the ss talk on this forum i broke down and ordered a butternut and kwila SS field grade box from midwest.it came yesterday and to my surprise i got one with inlays in the lid and bottom.although i dont use them a whole lot i got one or two pretty decent boxes,a holleran and a few from some place called come hea to me. so thats what i had to compare it to.it ran a little different than say the halloran, with it every thing is level and you just drag the lid toward you,the others are small one siders, once i got the hang of it in a few short minutes i was making some pretty sweet noise.this box is flawless looking, its super nice, ive been playing with it all evening in the house,i believe ive finally found a box that i will take with me instead of setting on my shelf and looking pretty, this thing sounds good.my season here in ky dont start till the 18th of next month and i cant wait, with this new box,my crystal mistress, and top shelf cacklin crystal,a woodhaven vision aluminum thats been my go to call the last couple years,my cherry classic, and a bunch of other pots im quite fond of theres no doubt that between all that some turkeys are going to be tripping over their beards to get me.(i hope anyway).cant wait.these ss boxes really are as nice as everyone on here say they are and im quite proud to have got it.thanks for letting me ramble on...
Al and Josh make a fine box call. PM him on here. Good folk to talk to.
I have the same box and I will be starting my season in arkansas on the 18th as well. SS makes a great box call. Best field grade box call I've ever had :z-twocents:
The SS boys make a great call!! Have the same box and it's pure turkey!
I've got 3 of his short boxes and they are all talkers
You got a turkey Killa!!
The field grade boxes have inlay on the lid and sides, just not checkering. I had All and Josh make me the same one and it is probably the best sounding box I own.
Glad you like the call Sir, hope it serves you well and best of luck this Spring. :icon_thumright: Thanks for the nice comments from everyone, much appreciated. :icon_thumright:

I have the same call & it's the best sounding box call I've owned. You will be pleased with it I'm sure.

yeah i know, and not many people were i live use them, ive got a super yelper by richard shively ive had since 2005,ive took quite a few birds with it over the years.they are so simple but sound so much like a turkey,i keep it in a little plastic soap container he makes to carry em in tucked away in my vest and i have to break it out ever now and again, alot of times its just what they want to hear..
Congrats on a super short box! They run all turkey! I have a megaflock of SSCustom callers and none of them have disappointed me! They have given several gobblers permanent headaches.
