Title: Nebraska Turkey Hunting
Post by: bchilde on March 26, 2015, 08:35:37 PM
Me and 2 other buddies are headed to Custer county Nebraska to hunt with Hidden Valley Outfitters in 23 days and I am pumped. We are going after the merrium turkeys but I got a feeling we will run into several hybrids. If we kill Hybrids does this count towards the grand slam or no?

It counts toward the hybrid slam.

A true Merriam turkey has shorter legs, thus a shorter beard. You will have color phase on birds that may look like a Rio but is a true Merriam. Good luck

I almost booked Nebraska for a merriams, could not be sure because of hybrids. I think the northwest part of the state is pure merriams. Check with the outfitter

Yes, the NWTF recognizes hybrids toward your slam.

I've been to Custer county, you'll go to bed t night still hearing gobbles and yelps in your head!  It can be crazy.

We had a great time.  Have fun!

I hunted NW Nebraska, up near Chadron. Me and my buds killed nice white Merriams.
