Title: box call got wet, is this normal?
Post by: KentuckyHeadhunter on March 22, 2015, 01:37:35 PM
My Lonnie Mabry purpleheart/cedar box got a few spots of water on it this morning. It did not get soaked, just some water drops and maybe wet gloves.  Is this normal wear for this type of wood?  I'm kinda bummed about it. It still sounds great though.

No, nothing like that at all.  I use a thermacell and water was the only thing involved.  It happened in less than an hour.

Maybe there was something on my gloves from deer season and when they got wet it made a mixture that ate the finish off. I have been turkey hunting my whole life and have never seen this or had it happen.  I'm hoping a callmaker will chime in and tell me what I need to do now. If anything..

No its perfectly smooth and dry.  Its as if it bleached out the wood or removed the finish.

Fixed!!!! And looks better than new! Thank you Mr Yingling for your info! Step one was all it took.......furniture polish.  Makes a man feel kinda dumb when the solution is so easy! Sheesh.
