Title: 28 Gauge
Post by: Throw Back on March 20, 2015, 11:57:49 PM
I know I need to pattern, but I am looking for 28 gauge loads.
My wifey got a break barrel 28 last year for her first gun and she would really like to take a turkey with it.

I have #5 pheasant loads but was thinking of getting hevi shot sub gauge loads.  Would 4 or 6 shot be a better idea for the 28

6 and keep shots inside 25 if it patterns >100 in 10" circle. If you can get >100/10" you can extend it some, say 35. I think your pattern will wash out before that though. Probably has a modified choke on that gun.

Prob will need to go 7.5 to get a decent pattern density if you use lead. Your pattern will fall off before the pellet energy range. If you reload for it it opens a whole new world

I got the 6's.  I am hopin to get closer to 30, I was getting good patterns at 22 with copper plated # 5 pheasant loads.  It is a modified.  I will keep those numbers in mind

I got pretty decent patterns out of 5 and 7's.  I have been looking at getting a 28 gauge reloader.  I think MEC is the only one who makes one though.  She doesnt shoot a lot  but I was interested in trying a load I saw.  Guy use 18g/cc pellets and was getting great patterns
