Did my first official scouting this morning, here in ky. Season opener is April 18. Not a lot of gobbling. Heard what sounded like 2 toms sounding off a few times but not much. Heard a few hens tree yelping as well. Nothing after fly down.
With the winter snow and rain like it has been, probably has the birds still in winter mode. Looking like some warmer weather is in the near future which will hopefully get the birds moving.
I still have a 4 foot snow bank in front of my house, ugh
I plan to start scouting next weekend. Can't wait to hear the first gobble of the year.
I saw my 2 big 3/4 year olds and the 2 jakes from last year are longbeards. Bad news is, I saw zero, no young birds. This may be ok this year but not the future. We shall see. Good luck to all

I'm sure there are young ones around somewhere. Maybe with the hens. Great news for this season though. I plan to be back out Saturday to pull the card on camera.
I have been out scouting just a little. Just road scouting in the afternoon so far, but I did see 2 big strutters yesterday, and I think I know where they like to roost! So I'm pretty confident in that spot. Gonna start going out before work listening this week or next week. I'll keep you guys posted. I LOVE this time of year!!!
I usually wait to trout season to do my scouting on my private spot...alittle scouting early and then trout fishing and alittle breakfast down near my favorite creek..Rusty
:thanks: Come on Oscar, keep us going man, lol
pulled the card today from the trail cam. Several deer pics and only this one of a turkey. I'm sure as Spring nears, more will start to come through. Either way, nice bird.
Just roosted one this evenin that gobbled 5 times on the limb after he flew up. They usually don't gobble a whole lot after fly up down here.
 Hey Doc, what is that green and brown stuff in the picture, all white up here. Good luck
:newmascot: Good luck Oscar. Slip in and dirt nap him.
Did some scouting this weekend. Didn't hear anything on the roost. Found plenty of sign though. Also pulled the cards and got some good pics.(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/23/fee3f92ddb40039a7fdf684999e855c5.jpg)
:turkey2: That spot looks promising. Whack the big boy :blob10:
70 degrees here in KY...finally feeling like Spring. Dad texted and said he saw a strutter with two other birds today. First strutter we have seen all Spring. It's right around the corner!!! :turkey2:
Did some scouting this morning, 35 and spitting snow, hooray. Saw 1 Tom, either a super-jake or a small 2 year old with a 5 " beard that may have frozen off. No strutting or gobbling. Still got 5 more weeks to speed up the season. Good luck to all my teammates. Al Baker
Glassed a field today that I plan to hunt. Saw two nice sized strutters with a hen. Got me all fired up.
check the cam today. Got a pic of a nicer gobbler using the field. Decided to move the camera to the back field where I saw the two strutting, to see if they were using it more. Saw some tracks and poo so put up the cam. Wanted to glass another field that I have seen turkeys in, and on my way bumped a flock of 20 or so hens and the two gobblers. Hate that I bumped them, but I was still a good 200 or so yards away, so hopefully they weren't too spooked. Seems that there are 2 nice gobblers using the area. Hopefully I'll get a crack at one of them before someone else on the joining properties do.
Well its finally staring warm up here and feel like spring. Plan on doing some more scouting in the morning on some public land that I hunt. Only 17 more days left.
Anyone else on the team hunting yet? Going back out in the morning to do some more scouting. Only 12 days left.
4 weeks from today is my opener, I hope I make it. Good luck, Al Baker
2 weeks till opening here. Can't hardly wait.

My season is still a couple weeks out.
Birds were hammering this morning. Seen 2 gobblers and a jake. The jake was 20 yds from me trying to gobble and yelping. First time I have heard a gobbler yelp.
Already had a failed 5 day hunt in MS. Birds did nothing after fly down. It's starting to hear up around here. I've seen a few strutting. KY comes in the 18th and MO comes in the 20th. Working from now till then. 16 days of hunting after that. :gobble:
Just got back from a week hunt in Tennessee. I got two birds! Will post in kill thread shortly. Went with 3 other buddies. One came home birdless. It was tough hunting first few days....weather...birds weren't gobbling much, and it wasn't greened up much. Definitely got better as the week went on. Other two guys stayed longer and have 3 between them now.
12 days till Indiana opener!!
:turkey2:Good deal, I hope you had fun and got a couple biguns. Congrats
was able to get out a week early and hunt Ft. Knox this weekend for a quota hunt. Saturday was a bust. Had one give a few courtesy gobbles but didn't work in.
Today, thought we were in the "spot". Had turkeys answering our calls in all directions. Had what sounded like 2 birds work in just out of sight. If we could see 40yds in the woods, they were 42! The birds ended up working away from us.
Wish we could have closed the deal, but it was great to get out in the turkey woods. Hopefully next weekend will produce one.

Man, that sounds like Tennessee last weekend. Was tough going, but got progressively better as the week went on. Glad you got out and had some fun at least! Next weekend should be great!
Just got done roosting some birds. Its game on in the morning.
Good luck tjohn07, rip em up
Got it done this morning. I will post some pics in the kill thread after I take a nap.
:z-winnersmiley: Sweet! Congrats. You guys will take the pressure off me. By the time I start, if I get one it will only count if it is an upgrade, lol.
Glad you guys are getting it done. Hope to be on it in the AM. Had to work the ACT this morning so, couldn't go. Congrats guys.

Good luck in the morning Drew23.
Congrats to the guys who have killed already. I'll be out trying to help us out for the first time this year starting wed.
well today was a bust, here in KY. Rain showers ALL DAY. Didn't even get out this morning at daylight due to rain. Finally made it out at around 230PM when rain finally started to let up. Got about an hour in and finally had one gobbling about 1000yds away, but then here came the rain again. Decided to pack it up and leave it for another day. Might try to get an afternoon hunt in Tuesday after work.
Ya same here. It poured this morning. Finally stopped about 10 am. Got to hunt for a couple hours but didn't hear a thing. Going out soon to see if I can roost a bird. Weather looks good for the morning.

Got this off another teams thread. In case any one is interested on where we stand.
Cool! I'd say we're doing pretty good! I think a lot of those teams ahead of us have a bunch of southern hunters who have already tagged. Seems like a lot of us are Midwest/northerners.
My season runs till June 6th, lol :funnyturkey:
Almost had another one this morning. After my initial set up failed and the birds started to work away from me. I know exactly where they are going. So I back out and run down the dirt road to try and beat them there.
As I start to get close to the spot where I think they are going I call to see where they are. Immediately two gobbles ring out and they are close. So I get setup quickly. I hear another gobble. They are close but I can not see them because there are 2 down trees 40 yds in front of me. It sounds like to they are going to come out to the left of the trees, so I adjust my gun to the left. Well soon as I do that a gobbler walks out to right of the trees. I wait till he walks behind a tree and start to ease my gun to the right and as soon as I do the other gobbler walks out from behind the tree and I freeze but its to late he busted me and both birds haul butt out of there.
A little later I set up another bird that was in a field but no matter what call I made he just gobbled and strutted in the middle of the field. After 45 mins of this I decide to leave.
Oh well I guess on the bright side I still have a tag. If I would have killed a bird this morning my season would be over. Back at in the morning going to give that spot a break and try some public land.
Tagged out fellas.
Good job guys.

Good job. Nice bird buck hunter21.
Way to go buckhunter!!!
I've got a MO bird and a KY bird down. Both 2 yr olds nothing big. I'll keep working at a big boy I've seen a couple times.
Post em up SEMO. You can upgrade later.

I am still after an upgrade. We are at the half way mark of the season and the birds are still hammering but just will not come to any call. Starting Sunday I can hunt all day.
I don't like my new digital scales from cabelas, 16.13 and the check in station had it at 18 on the dot, lol. I also broke off the 4/5 long hairs on the beard while I was measuring it. The pic didn't show the whole beard so I rolled him and lost 2". It was, at the longest hair, 12 1/4. The next pic was at 10 1/4. My conscience made me go with the 10 1/4. Damn, the 12 1/4 would have been my longest beard ever. I saw one this morning that will be an upgrade if I get him. Good luck to all the Thunderbeards.
That sucks. I got the same scale. Makes me wonder if I am getting screwed on the weights of my birds.
I am tagged out but am thinking about getting a permit to hunt the Navy base here. I would get 2 more tags. With over 2 weeks left in the season I am not ready to be done yet.
Awesome job!
I got a cabelas scale too, but its different. The little black one. You can check its accuracy with a gallon jug of water, which should be around 8.34 lbs +/- Check with two or three. Mine was very close.
Guys, as bad as I hate to say it, I zeroed out here in KY. Not had add much time to be on here as I thought I would so I've missed a lot if the chat. Going to read back thru. Congrats to everyone with birds so far, and good luck for those that still have hunting to go.

Well guys that is it my season is over. No luck on Friday. I gave it hell but couldn't get it done. Just want to say thanks for letting me be a part of the team. Had a hell of a year. Tagged out by the half way point of the season. Called in two birds for a buddy. He missed one and shot one. Took my daughter on her first hunt. Lots of good memories from this year sad it had to end but look forward to next season. Good luck to everyone still hunting
Congrats on a great season tjohn. I know it sucks that it's over. Glad you had fun, that's the most important part. I too am already waiting and preparing for spring 2016!
:funnyturkey: I still have a NH tag and am looking for an upgrade, a 250 point bird will do nicely, lol. Good luck to all that are still hunting. Al Baker
:funnyturkey: I put the gun up today, I have next Saturday as a guide though. Season ended wet in NH, but I called in our pain in the bird to 15 yards. Of course it was a magnum jake but it felt good to have him in the sights and let him walk. He is high on the list for next year. Great season, 4 youth birds and 4 first timers( these overlap). I got to shoot a double with a good friend and shot a hard earned tom with my best friend on his first hunt ever, I tried everything I could to get him that bird, just my lucky day. My 8 year old daughter went a few times and had a blast. I met a new friend in NY and we hunted hard, but no tom. I had a lot of oppuotunities this year and passed on a bunch of jakes, hopefully they make it to next year. I have a 3 state midwest trip planned for next year, come on April 22. Thanks for the stories and for having me on the team. God Bless, Al Baker
Congrats on a great season man. Always sucks when it's over. What states you hunting in the midwest next year?
Missouri, Kansas and SD
You are going to really enjoy that trip. I love hunting Kansas and Missouri. I have never hunted SD before, I hope to maybe in the next 2 or 3 years. You going to outfitters or trying public land?
Hunt Pro Outfitters for all 3 states. I am excited already, making plans and getting ready
Cool. I bet you're excited, that sounds like a great trip to have planned. Me and the buddy of mine that did a Nebraska and Kansas trip this spring are getting a trip to Florida for next year lined up to complete our slams and I am crazy excited for that. I may pm you about some details of your hunt. We like to do one good trip a year and we already know Florida is happening in 2016, but we are also looking at what we wanna do for 2017. :)
Never too early to make plans, and as much as I love to turkey hunt, I am always looking a season or two ahead of time.
:funnyturkey: 2017 is shaping up to do an Osceola hunt then maybe Tennessee and Virginia on the way home. The timeline is what is the deciding factor. Florida will probably be with an outfitter, the others may be unguided. Keep me posted on your Florida hunt. One more day to get my buddies birds, hoping for a good finish tomorrow. Thanks, Al Baker
