I went out to listen this morning not expecting much with close to 3 feet of snow on the ground. To my surprise 4 or 5 birds ripped out some booming gobbles. Almost knocked my wool hat off! I have kept gobbling records for many years, this is the earliest ever, yet the most severe winter here in New England, go figure. So here it is, 3/14/06 3/11/07 3/16/08 3/13/09 3/18/10 3/13/11 3/13/12 3/24/13 3/22/14 3/8/15 The last two years were pretty late and this year is the earliest. Not long after they gobbled I saw a Coyote heading there way. Those buggers need to die!

I haven't heard any gobbling here in Maine yet. I shot sporting clays last week with a guy from Central NH and he heard them last saturday. Not as much snow as here. Go figure.
How many years were you out every day for weeks until you heard a gobble? Only way to keep accurate records is to be out there every day from the beginning of February.
I've heard am roost gobbles in the 100's in Oct, November and mid December.. After that I don't know because I'm not in the woods deer hunting but I'd assume that would continue through all the winter. when do you guys consider it going from birds being birds to spring activity starting up. I generally base it more on when they continue to gobble on the ground into the day as things warming up.
Heard gobbling here in PA. on Sunday the 8th. We still have about 14 inches of snow here. Calling for warmer temps the rest of this week.
I duck hunt in the foothills of California sometimes, and the last two years, I hear birds gobbling pretty good starting in mid-December. This past January, I took out a turkey call just for fun, and the birds really responded to it.
Toms and hens seemed to be grouped up together, and I have been really surprised by the amount of gobbling I hear (as well as the hen vocalizations) so long before the breeding season. These are Rio turkeys...
