Alright we talked Crystal calls, now I was wondering what everyone's favorite slate call is. I love my Sneed Hot Hen and was looking for a partner for it.
Schafer's slate over slate in a red hen pot, not even a close call. However it was an experiment, he said he is gonna make more though
Tuscarora Legend Jake Taker slate call. Nice, 3.25" slate call with a glass sound board. Very sweet call.
Platz cherry slate.
Light's Out...slate over glass...laminated wood pot...a variety of laminated strikers...

Paul Platz cherry or maple slate
What does one of his slates generally run $ wise?
Proverbs 3:5
"Trust in the lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding"
Sent from my phone because I'm that cool
Cane Creek Pro Custom slate.
Paul platz maple and jimmy schaffers slate over slate red hen pot. Both sound exceptional and both are in my vest. The schaffers has a unique sound but sounds great.
Hard to imagine a slate call being much better than one of these three Daybreak slate/glass. Left to right:
Canary wood, Radical Bubinga, Pistachio

That bubinga is sweet.
As of right now mine is a Jack "Pappy" Lewis slate over glass in a Koa pot. I have to be very careful cause it will call in hens with the Tom in tow! So using that call I make darn sure I see a long beard before pulling that trigger.
SS Game Over Slate!!!

SS Game Over Slate!!!
I just bought one and really like it!!
My lights out slate over glass that Scoot gave me.
Absolutely my favorite slate call!
Good choices so far and I'd like to add Clint Corder, SS Calls and Tim Oldham Jr. Another callmaker, who no longer makes calls, that made a killer slate is Ralph Chandler.
Right now it's my old Cody World Class
Spec 1 slate from Cody.
Now I have to add my new Jimmy Schaffer slate over slate! :smiley-char092:

I use my own in either a cedar or chestnut pots. Gary makes a great pot also, his pistachio and nara wood calls sound fantastic.
Gary does make a fine pot caller. That striker with the canarywood caller looks to be Lilac :gobble:
Mine has always been a Lon Trice in an osage orange pot but recently I'm really taking a liking to my new Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen.
Tim Sanford slate over aluminum in a myrtle pot, has closed the deal on quite a few gobblers over the past few years...
Gooserbat
I have a Lonzo zebrawood I compare everything to and I just got a cedar Halloran that I like I have a blackstone walnut and a platz maple on order wonder if one is gonna hang with the Lonzo I run it with a rosewood or persimmions striker
Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen.Plain,simple,and deadly
Sneed hot hen slate
I do like my hot hen, but man my new Platz maple slate is sounding purdt good right now
Platz maple slate :z-winnersmiley:
Gotta be Lonnies Hot Hen for me.
I love my Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen and would probably cry if something ever happened to it. I bought a Houndstooth Slate at the convention and I am blown away by this call. it has awesome volume , very sharp cuts, but it also has the softer calling and ease of play that you expect in a slate. I have a Paul Platz cherry slate on the way and I am expecting great things from it.
Well I've called a ton of birds in with my Larry Gresser Hackberry Slate..I have a couple new slate calls I recently purchased that I'm starting to really like..one is Lonnie Sneed Hot Hen..I like to let the turkeys be the judge so we'll see how the Hot Hen does in the next several years..but so far my Gresser Hackberry slate call outshines any other slate I've used since 1993 when I started this addiction...I have a feeling the Hot Hen is gonna give it a run for the money in future years though.
Have a Bradford Pear I made about 3 years ago

I just ordered an Olin Humphries slate. Mineralized poplar. I hope it becomes my favorite, 'cause my favorite came up missing, along with a hoot and a crow call.
Like any call builder I'm partial to my own, but my favorite that's not mine is a Mulberry Lights Out I had Wendell build for me. Super sweet call.
Sneed Hot Hen
Sneed Hot Hen
Lonnie Mabry Chestnut pot with Cherry Wood sound board. 2nd would have to be Callmakerman walnut with I think glass soundboard. 2 proven killers!
