I recently got my hands on a David Halloran Top Shelf Cacklin' Crystal with his Dymondwood 2 piece striker. I'm not really liking the sound that I'm getting from this combination. For those who have this call, which striker did you decide sounded the best???? Thanks. :OGturkeyhead:
What one person likes, may not trip your trigger to what you like? The striker is the tuning fork for pot calls, it will produce a tone you like or dislike. You may like the sound of a turned striker better than a 2 piece striker, or the feel of one better than the other? Only you can decide that.
What is it that you don't like about the sound with the combo that your running?
David Macassar ebony is hard to beat on any of his crystal calls
I also like purpleheart and yellowheart on most surfaces
My hickory fowler is good on the cacklin along with the woodhaven strike 3 and lights out and holloran and fowler one piece dymondwood make it not so high pitched
From my experience with his crystal or glass calls, his purpleheart or yellowheart one piece strikers work very well.
My favorite is yellowheart on the top shelf
I've never ran a Top Shelf Crystal but I do know that Yellowheart runs great on a Twisted Sister. I'd give Tulipwood a try as well.
Zebra wood and IPE wood strikers.
