Just wanted to start a thread asking what particular call have you killed most of your gobblers with. Not talking specifics but general type. Myself , I have killed over half mine using a box from start to finish. If it's mouth calls, what cut and how many reeds. If it's pots , slate , glass , ect. So the question is what call type has been your most deadliest?
A three reed mouth call of various sorts.
3 reed diaphragm with either a modified V (Gooserbat Hillbilly) or two reed corner cut ( HS Raspy Hen/Gooserbat Classic Hen). Glass pot with hickory striker would be number 2
For me it's a box call, in particular a half moon box. All started with a Dale Rohm all walnut. I always have a diaphragm in my mouth also, usually a 2 -1/2 reed with a ghost cut.
trumpet
In the last few years the Woodhaven Cherry Classic Crystal has been deadly for me.
Box call
slate to start usually finish with a double reed split v or cutter
Mouth Call for me, with an old Lynch box call, and an old scratch box in tow.
Mixing in scratching in the leaves and a little silent treatment at the right time often proves to be the best call to make.
I'm with Matt.
Trumpet.
Diaphragm for me, by a landslide.
trumpet and box call
Mouth call for me also.
Usually a pot call, and a scratch call, Lucky Clucker, and a mouth call.
Three reed mouth call has prob killed the most for me start to finish
Mouth call for me jim pollard original bat wing 3
Mouth call !
Slate till he's close. Mouth call if needed to finish him off
I use a long box to get his attention at distance. Then, a glass, slate, or aluminum pot to keep him coming. Finally, a 2 or 3 reed diaphragm with leaf scratching to seal the deal.
Jim
I would say a box call has started more "death marches" for me than any other, but like others have said, soft talk on a mouth call and a little leaf scratching sealed the deal.

:agreed:
The one I'm using when I luck onto a hot gobbler. Most of the time it's been a Copperhead mouth call.
When I first started I used a Camp push-pull box almost exclusively, It lost its tune for some reason and I never found another that sounded as good. Now I use a good slate or glass call from Cane Creek calls. I think pot calls make the most realistic yelps going. Close in work calls for a diaphram.
I would have to say my ceramic over glass or my crystal pot calls
Mouth call

trumpet
I would have never guess yours would be a trumpet call. ;)
I bet you are really good at calling with one.
diaphragm but diversity over the years is making a trumpet and box call catch up.
Mine varies between a lightsout slate over glass, and my Kaiser glass over curly maple with a purpleheart soundboard and purpleheart striker.
For me it's been a crystal pot, mouth call(batwing, ghost , and vcut) and a box. If I had to carry one I beleive I'd take a mouth call

hard for me to use anything but a mouth call
I use every style of call. For me the number one call is a trumpet.
For sure a Haint gobble call :o
A copper pot..... quadrupled my kill ratio.
For me its a slate call easily
:OGturkeyhead: 2 or 3 reed V cut, no contest.
Diaphragm and there's not a close second really. But, I've added some killer pots to my collection since the end of last season.
22 year old MAD Super Aluminator, prob has 130-150 long beards to its credit.
Overall a mouth call. I've called more to the gun with a box and pot calls the last five years or so.
trumpet
For me it's the slate call....ive been hunting since 1970....didn't start Turkey hunting till the 1980...im now on my 38th bird this year..and 75% of the birds have been finished with the slate...Rusty
3 reed V cut or modified V cut for the win !!!
If I could only take one, or one type of call into the field it would be a diaphragm call... Realism, volume, versatility, and lack of motion... If I am trying to cut some ground between myself and a gobbling bird, I can walk/run and call at the same time... If I have a hung-up bird, I can walk away and call... A good diaphragm probably has the best potential for realism from a good caller; my potential has yet to be realized though.
I do enjoy a box call though... They do not seem much louder, but it sure seems to induce a response from further away... Easy call to use with a lot of versatility... Sounds more real in the woods than a pot call to me, with almost as much versatility... Moisture is the enemy here though (as pointed out in a similar thread I posted in the call forum by Ringbill).
Tried a couple pot calls, but all the surfaces and strikers seems a lot to take in, and to me, in the woods, a box call or diaphragm sounds more realistic and reaches out a bit further (as far as volume)... Never really understood the draw to pot calls?
Learning a trumpet or wingbone call would interest me at some point, but to date, I have never even heard one.
I have made and played around with tube calls, but I see no advantage over a box or diaphragm call?
I use a deadly double pot slate over glass.
This call will blow them away. If by chance I can't bring them in.
I will use my copper pot.
Mouth call by far (from start to finish). Probably because that is what I use 99% of the time. I use various cuts based on what sounds good to the turkeys on any given day. Three reeds most times.
Mouth calls. I have killed most with double and triple stacked frame calls. Used the Primos "True Double" more than any other.
3 reed batwing diaphragm is my go to, but I've used glass and slate to hammer a few.
Pot call for sure for me... changes most years on which ones, last year it was Mad Hen Crystal, year before that was a cherry ceramic, killed a bunch with hallorans Twisted Sister.
Always have a hooks, halloran, or houndstooth mouth call in. (I must like H's)
Im just starting to get into collecting and carrying box calls
Mouth call....various kinds....I guess my overall favorite over the years has been the Primos True Double. I try alot of different mouthcalls and find myself each year using a different one than the year before.
Mouth call
Excited yelping with a triple reed mouth call.
3 reed mouth calls are what works for me.
Definitely the squealin hen.
Woodhaven copperhead mouth call for me by far but that's just me. To each his own.
Trumpet.......I'm sure you guys are shocked to hear that. :)
Knight&Hale Old Yeller....ive killed my last 10 with....I call it my finisher...Rusty
Primos A Frame -- 3 reed -- bat cut mouth call......it's a killer!
:gobble: A Holbert aluminum pot call Silver Fox, it must tickle their ears or something. :OGturkeyhead:
I use pot calls the most. I use a mouth call when they are close but tend to gag on them so I try not too use them much.
Sent from my iPhone that I ain't smart enough to use with tapatalker
My aluminum pot has over 100 start to finish kills under its belt.
