I bought a box of turkey shells (I'm not going to name any names)and when I opened them today to shoot, five of the ten shells have a small rattle to them. It almost sounds like a pellet may be loose. Has anybody had this experience and are they safe to shoot? Also, do you think it will affect the pattern?
Probably just leaked a little buffer. Most folks will never know the difference.
I didn't want to mention the brand but they are Win LongBeards. Don't they have some kind of hardened buffer that is supposed to hold the pellets in place until the buffer breaks apart from the impact of the shot?
I've never had a problem with any of mine. They are safe to shoot. Shoot them and see if the pattern differs. I doubt it will. That shotlok turns to powder when the shell is fired anyways I do believe.
Call Winchester and voice your concern. I've never used them so can't offer any advice on how they sound buy my understanding is they are encased in a gel
Just shoot them , nothing to worry about.
Most definitely a loss of media! I have quit using certain brands of shells because of it: For Two Reasons: 1. In my tests which are pretty extensive it can affect pattern. 2. It is messy for media to leak in your gun and tends to increase the amount of cleaning needed. My Benelli M1 and M2s do not like media in the action. I suggest you look at Longbeards by Winchester, they don't leak and shoot right there with hevi-shot!

The OP is talking about the LB's rattling........
That is diffidently not right .
They are supposed to be sealed in the resin. No loose shot.
The media or buffer is not broken up yet in the longbeard (Shotlok).
Are you sure it is shot rattling?
Are the shells the same as the others LB you have bought?

I am not sure if it is shot or not. Out of a single box of 10, 5 of them rattle, 5 do not.
check out lead shooters section , may 15 2014.
More problems were reported.
No resin in shell is a quality problem for sure.
It is what make the longbeard work so well.
No consistency there.
Now go shake and sort your longbeards boys. :TrainWreck1:
It will be funner than checking lot numbers.
