Title: USPS
Post by: hunter22 on February 24, 2015, 01:44:47 PM
Can somebody tell me how USPS can "lose" a package? I bought an item a couple weeks ago and been looking for it in my mail box each day. I looked at the tracking # and it just seemed to stop at a post office in Arizona. When I contacted the person I had bought the item from and he did some checking he was told the package was lost in the system. But now nothing can be done for some period of time while they look for my package. Are you kidding me?

Last week I sent a package 2-day priority mail to Alabama from Arkansas. I looked at the tracking and the package was in Kansas City, KS out for delivery last Friday. I called the post office and they informed me that my package got put on the wrong truck. Are you kidding me?

And we wonder why their system is so deep in debt.

Buddy sent me a choke from Louisiana to SC and it took almost 2 weeks.  It is pitiful!  I have never trusted the USPS.

That stinks. I guess I've just always been lucky, I've never had them mess anything up badly. I actually prefer USPS when I'm receiving something from the west coast, USPS will get it to me in two days with Priority Mail,  FedEx and UPS take over a week.

My package was insured so I will eventually get something. But the bad thing is I need the item now. I ship a lot of packages and always insure them, not because I am afraid they will get broken but because I am afraid they will get lost. Something wrong will that scenario dealing with a federal agency.

A friend of mine mailed me some mouth calls on January 15 from NC.  I got them here in SC on February 20.  The envelope had been torn terribly like it was damaged in a mail sorting machine.

The first batch he sent me I got an empty envelope that was torn to smithereens.  Never heard of such.

Thursday before last I sent a USPS money order to Montana and paid $19.95 for next day guaranteed which was 2nd day guaranteed by 3 pm on Saturday because it was near a small town and could not do next day. The guy contacted me the following Tuesday and it was not there. The tracking # showed it out for delivery in Florida???? It showed up the following Saturday. So 9 days for guaranteed next day. Really efficient. I am sure they will give me a refund for the $20 shipping but not the headaches. Frustrating.

I have one going through UPS and then it gets transferred to USPS. It was 3-5 days shipping...  It showed up as in Miami last week and now it is showing in Jacksonville...Miami is the final destination. We are at 9 business days now with this order....    :TrainWreck1:

In 40 plus years the USPS has never once lost a bill coming to my house, now thats some kind of record.

:TooFunny:  Funny (and depressing) how those bills always seem to find their way...

Seriously, though, I haven't had issues with USPS.  Any shipping issues that I have ever had are with the other large carriers.

USPS delivers a bunch of packages these days for FedEx and UPS but it just the last leg (Mile) of the city or town of final destination.  Also, most people don't realize but most all of USPS packages are shipped on FedEx and UPS jets

We have had utility bills come back to city hall with a "no current address" or "no longer lives here" sticker on it MONTHS after it was mailed out!  And I live in a town of 3500 people.

Also ordered a small item from a catalog type company one time.According to tracking number, package came to St Louis, went to Des Moines(which you have to pass thru my town to get too),went back to St Louis(pass thru #2)then was sent to processing facility in a larger town across the river from us in Illinois, then to my town then out for delivery. :TooFunny:

I ordered a decoy off of eBay on the 22nd and received an email yesterday (24th) that it had shipped. This decoy is coming from NC and I live in Columbia, SC. It says arrival date is March 4, next Wednesday. I could drive there and back to pick it up in a day or two.

I sent some calls to a fella 4 weeks back.  He contracted me last week and said they never showed, I sent him replacements, and both packages showed up Monday.  Go figure.

In reading all of these posts I'm starting to find this very disturbing.  I've sent out about 800 calls since I became a call-maker and 99% of them have gone by USPS.  Maybe once or twice ever there has been a problem.  And that was due to either probably a dropped package or something else equally conceivable.

Now in the last month I have sent a package to Iowa (across the state border from me) and it slowly made it's way through the St. Paul depot and then down to Lubbock TX?  After a week or so the package found it's way back to Iowa.  Fast forward three weeks and I send another package to the same customer in Iowa.  It goes through the postal hub in St. Paul again and then to Des Moines, IA....great right?  Nope, it then when down to TX again.  Dallas this time.  After a week or so it finally found it's way to the owner.

These stories, some of them raise an eyebrow or even crack a chuckle, but in my own personal experience I have really never had a problem until recently.  I've sent the package and basically forgot about it.

As a guy with a grandfather retired from USPS and a cousin recently retired from USPS I'm wondering what the heck is going on here!

I am starting to believe the comment from Newman on Seinfeld when he told a women, "Zipcodes.....there meaningless  ha ha ha"

I'm telling you guys that except for the beginning processing and ending processing, your packages are flying in between Fed Ex hubs.  I would say a lot of diversion related activity is probably weather related.

Never really had but 1 problem. I mailed some calls to MO once, from McBee, SC and I thought they would never get there!! Problem was, I had several calls in the same box and I hadn't purchased additional insurance. I was sweating for a little bit. Took over a week for them to get there!!

Best the postal service can find out, my package got on a plane and left the country without telling anyone where it was going.

Ordered a couple of t-shirts from a co. about 60 miles east of the house, 2nd day usps. Tracking showed it traveled about 100 miles farther east, then stayed there for 3 days(?) then went west to a place 100 miles south of the house, then 2 days later it was delivered.

So much for "2nd day" delivery, but the pkg. was delivered . Might just drive over there next time.

I have a computer repair business and I am always ordering parts.  I would 75% of the time I never get the part when USPS shows the expected delivery date.  For instance, I ordered an iPhone screen (I replace tons of these) and here is the tracking info....  What were they doing for 5 days?????  It's always like this for me.  It seems it will sit in one post office for a few days and then all of the sudden it will get back on track...  Incompetent!

Out of the blue my package showed up yesterday. This was after USPS had declared the package as "Lost." The package was in perfect shape.

Had a phone break which was under warranty. ATT sent out a new one in 4 days and it was received. My instructions were to mail the other one back or I would be charged a fee for it. I sent it back and 15 days later the USPS delivered it just a few days ahead of me being charged $500. I live in Louisiana and the package was going to a destination in Texas 9hrs and 45 min away or 946 miles. I could've walked it there quicker. Oh it was sent to Texas from Louisiana via Washington DC

My Pretty Boy Jr. showed up yesterday, unmarred. I cannot complain about that seeing as how it arrived almost a week earlier than originally posted.

Just in the last month...
Wife's W2 still hasn't arrived. Luckily HR printed her off another.

Still waiting on our bid from a homebuilder in a town 15 miles away.

Letter from our daughter's school telling us about her parent teacher conference showed up 2 days after the day we were scheduled to attend. It was postmarked February 2nd and arrived the 16th. Luckily the wife had taken her to school and the teacher said something about it.

They lose stuff from time to time. Bought a custom bowstring that took 3 months to deliver. Was Priority and had tracking, and it didn't matter. Thats why tracking is a joke to buy, but every buyer wants it, if it's lost, it's lost and only shows where they lost it. And another joke is insurance,  lost an item I sold with insurance  on it and never got all the money and took about 6 months to get the partial refund after I jumped throug hoops. I now buy no extras with the USPS.

I ordered a choke a few weeks ago that left the original PO and went north 200 miles to a collection center. It then went back thru the original PO to another collection center 200 miles south. It then went back into the original PO and then left there headed toward NC.. It took 3 weeks.

The USPS goes down in history as one of the biggest failures of the federal government. Just more proof that the government cannot do anything correctly...yet, we trust them with our healthcare and education systems.
They sure don't mind passing rate hikes onto the customer so their retired employees can get a raise every time current employees do, they do a horrible job, they have to depend on UPS bailing them out because they can't get the job done, they are BILLIONS in debt year after year...and "We the people" just sit there and take it.
We the people sure are stupid....

I have already posted my complaint.  I use USPS for 99% of my shipping and they screw up once or twice a year...FedEx is another story they will never again get my business.

Agreed!! With Fed Ex I've had lost packages, smashed packages, lousy customer service, you name it! The worst was when I lived out in the woods. The delivery guy got his truck stuck in my driveway. Spun his tires and made big ruts. When that didn't work, he took a bunch of new Fed Ex boxes, and stuck them under his tires for traction. When he got his truck out, he just drove away, and left my driveway all rutted up and boxes all over the place. I was friggin' pissed!! >:(  :character0029: When I called to complain, I found out it was the regional managers son, that he had numerous complaints against him, but his Dad refused to discipline or fire him. ::)
I will never do business with them again!!
