Do y'all have any?
I won't carry a camera (phone doesn't count). Not really all that superstitious, but I definitely see where one could be and I 'm not brave enough to criticize anyone else's superstitions in fear of bad mojo coming my way.
I've carried a 4-leaf clover my niece found for about 6 years now.
I killed a gobbler the day after she gave it to me.
Won't leave home without it.
I try yo bump at least two gobblers off the roost at the beginning of each season.
Same boots even though they leak.
Buckeye toter here. Strutter.
More than 2 shells in gun is sure doom!

That one isn't hard to do. :TooFunny:
I wear the same old broken down camo hat. I had to touch up the camo last year with brown and green sharpies.
It also has the American flag pin that I wore after 9-11 on it and a turkey track pin that I made.
I'm thinking about replacing this year but not sure if I want to go there.
I rotate shells each hunt. I don't let my hat touch the ground, this goes back to being a kid and what my Dad would do and then always tell me. I also have a breast feather from a gobbler I killed over 40 years ago facing the barrel in the butt of my dedicated turkey gun at the time.
So no! No superstitions here.
I wear the same hat I always have. After I load my gun the first time in the season I always put the same shells in the same order. Every turkey feather I find as I hunt goes in my vest's game bag and a stays there until the first hunt of the next season.
Nah, I am not one of those crazies. 8)
when I was very little I was with my grandpa when he called up and killed a good bird. he always had a pocket watch and I remember him pulling it out and checking the time when he killed that bird. he passed and left me that old watch. its with me on every turkey hunt and when I kill a bird I pull it out and look at it. it doesn't keep good time anymore but I still do it. I guess not a superstitious thing just more of feeling my grandpa is with me.
I was hunting out west several years ago and came across an old homestead, while walking around I found an old clay marble, and I have carried with me on every turkey hunt since.

Very cool.
I kiss my first shell before I chamber it!
Too many! I try to find a four leaf clover to fold up with each tag in my wallet. Clover must be from the same state you are hunting.
A box of lucky chams gets placed in the back seat of my truck right before the season.. as I walk away from the truck each morning I take a heaping handful, cannot drop any.
I've also found that picking up deer sheds will ensure no turkey dies that day.. so they get avoided unless on way back to truck or not looking good anyways.
I carry exactly 7 shells. 3 in gun, 4 in shell loops in vest. If I shoot day before, it has to be replaced.
Also I have a close turkey hunting friend, we seem to really feed off eachother when it comes to killing birds.. if I get a LBD! text, it usually isn't too long before he gets the same, or visa versa. Very odd how many times that has worked.
Superstition/Tradition
I have my daughters write on two shells (1 for each of them) and its anything they want. I rotate who's shell goes in first each year. They love doing this. The shells in the past have said "Good luck, Love You, Bye Mr Gobbler...etc). If they don't get used, I use them just to make sure the gun is sighted in before each season.....

If a strong gust of wind comes up and blows your hat onto the ground, do you pack it up for the day? ;)
For me, I try to never go into the woods without some toilet paper in my vest. Bad things can happen!
I always carry an ancient stone spear point in my vest to remind myself how difficult it used to be to hunt turkeys.
Jim
Take out and check the choke before each hunt (before loading of course).
Carry a turkey tote made from a 10 pt buck I shot in Iowa...

I have my girls pick out the shell that will be in the chamber. They write their name on it and give it a kiss. Mom picks out theirs. That's just a couple things we are compelled to do.
I say Psalm 118v24 in my head as the sun comes up, before gobble time. I do it duck hunting too, before the birds start flying. Even have a sticker on the back of my boat to remind me. Ps118v24
"This is the day the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Helps to remind me the fun is in the pursuit, not in the squeeze of the trigger.

That don't happen, but if it did the confidence level goes way down.
I wear the same hat and I've had the same face mask for 20 years and will not hunt without it. Lost my gloves after killing my last bird of the season last year. I hope it doesn't give me bad JuJu this year. BTW some of you guys really have issues! Glad I'm in good company.
I write "turkey killer" on the chambered shell. Always carry a particular tiny antler in my pack.

This one I may adopt. :icon_thumright:

this one is worth keeping..... the rest of you guys may bear watching.... :goofball:
This is probably odd, as its what you should do anyways. I wont take my gun off safety until a turkey is in range and I'm fixing to pull the trigger. I've heard hunting partners on several occasions safetys snap off sometime when a gobbler is getting almost close enough, or steps behind a tree etc. Ive taken mine off early when it appeared like it was a for sure, done deal, only for something to go wrong. I also carry a old leather tote, even though I made a "cooler" tote out of paracord.
Wont wash clothes until the season is over. Wear an old worn out t-shirt that is falling apart, its my lucky one. ::)

A safety coming off before the bird is in range and in the bead =no bird for me that day. Kinda like throwing out anchor after you catch one speckled trout, it poisons the water I think!
Interesting read... hhhmmm, maybe if I *DID*, I'd have MORE LUCK!!! hahaha... ;D
But, nah; I have certain "routines" that I do before each & every hunt (ie chalk my box up real good & spruce up my slates w/the green pads, check my gun, set my boots & gun by the back door, etc.) but I don't have any superstitions; that's more of a "pre-flight checklist" type deal b/c I've forgotten stuff to take to the woods in the past & that aggravates the snot out of me!! :)
One thing I have begun to do -- call it "superstitious" I guess -- is I try to remember & pray before each and every hunt -- something I started about 5-6 years ago during deer season; it's usually a very simple prayer, where I just thank the Lord for His blessings, no matter what happens on that particular day's hunt... Not being religious here -- do what you want -- but since starting to do this, I've seen the majority of my hunts go far more successful than unsuccessful now... It's important to me to start EACH HUNT with a positive, thankful, BLESSED mindset; and successful to me is more than bagging a bird, ALTHOUGH I never rule that out & I remind the Lord of that, too!! hahaha :you_rock:

:funnyturkey: Same hat for 15 years, turkeys go in same orange bag my first Jake went in and same featherflex hen decoy. She has been shot by another hunter, a piece of her tail was ripped out by an ill fated coyote( may he rest in peace) and molested by a small Tom last year that met his end. I don't always use her but she is in my vest forever. Good stories on this post. Al Baker
There is always a blue and red PowerAid in the truck with a pack of Snickers next to them for breakfast. This has always brought good luck for me.
My ex-girlfriend and I had a thing we did every night before a hunt. We poured a couple of shot glasses of Wild Turkey 101, went outside and hoisted a toast to Orion, the hunter. Not sure if it was superstition, or just a cheap excuse for one more drink before calling it a night. ;D
