Title: Found some Hevi shot that was Remington branded are they any good?
Post by: bigcountry25 on February 10, 2015, 06:29:03 PM
I was at a local sporting goods store and they had several box of Remington shell that had the Hevi Shot logo on box.

They where all 6 shot. 10 shells to a box for $24.99

With the Hevi shot we have now we get 2oz loads, these where 1 1/2 oz at 1300fps and the other was 1 5/8 oz at 1220 FPS.

When Remington made these shells for hevi shot how do they compare with the Hevi shot we have today. It is obvious there are more pellets in the 2oz loads we have now.

I found some sun-faded boxes in a feed store in Monticello Georgia a couple years ago. I had heard of them but had never used them. Very dissapointing patterns in the Moss 535 20-inch barrel I had at the time.

Not comparing them to some of the Fed / hevi #7's or such but I shot the Rem Hevishot in #6 for a couple years and was well pleased by the results in my gun and choke combo.  I found the Rem Hevi's #6 to be just a bit better than the Hevi #6 in my setup.  But how dead is dead anyway?  Now you pay that price and get 5 shells so....mite depend on what your shooting now. I found the #7's and moved on.

I started using the #4 ' 3 seasons ago.  The ones I get are branded as Remington wingmaster HD with the Hedi shot label on the box also.  They are 5 to a box for about $30.  I love them.  I shot a Remington M 887 with a .665 Indian Creek choke and any bird 65 yards and in is dead.

The 1 5/8 #6 were stone killers and I still have a few left. I am re outfitting my gun for new shells, because my supply was running out.  My son will shoot the rest in his 870.  If I found an old supply of them, I would buy every one they had.

Were they 1.5 oz turkey or 1.5 oz duck?  I believe they made both (I know they did duck as I bought some for back up a few years ago).

A 65 yard pattern.
Does it have the Energy to kill?  YES
Does it have the pattern?  HECK NO
