Title: Winter Shock Gobble!
Post by: JLCustomTurkeyCalls on February 07, 2015, 10:35:25 PM
So around Christmas, I was bored and said what the heck... I'm gonna go mess with a flock that were roosting on the hill directly above our house.  I hit them with a cackle with my box at dusk and what do you know!?  A big tom sounded off!  What a rush!!  Can't wait for spring!  Ever happen to you?

Every fall when I'm hunting at my lease in SC, some toms shock gobble at something later in the season when it is cold. Always gets me fired up for spring!

:turkey2: I ain't gonna make it. 4 feet of snow and it is snowing now. I hope the birds make it through this. My buddy, who doesn't hunt, feeds the deer and turkeys. He hears them gobble year round. Al Baker

opening day of deer season in NY I actually changed stand locations because I had a flock of 20-30 birds making so much noise they were driving me nuts. They winter flock heavy on one property and they are always gobbling in the fall and winter around fly up/down.

My dad and I hunted one day in the Winter season, it was about 26 degrees and 3 toms picked through by us, as they were just about out of range I hit em with a soft yelp and all three of em gobbled, spun around and came back through by us, and dad busted one.  I cant wait for spring too

They gobble year round here. We've had them gobbling at our gunshots duck hunting. My brother texted me deer hunting  this year. Temp was in the teens and it was 1630 in the afternoon and he said birds were go blin non stop. I've got pics of one strutting in late November.

A piece of ground that I hunt is loaded with birds fall/winter I've often heard them gobble and occasionally shock gobble. I think they're not quite as loud in the fall but I could be wrong.
