I know that several folks have asked about Tom Kelly lately. Here's the latest from his newsletter:
"Greetings TENTH LEGION members. Colonel Kelly has made it through a 33 day radiation treatment program with excellent results. He is looking forward to attending the 39th National Wild Turkey Federation's convention and trade show this coming week. Tom and his crew will be in booth 1113 selling books, audio books and his DVD collection. Come by say hello, get your book personalized by the "poet laureate of Wild Turkey literature."
Thanks,
Clark
That is great news I am glad to read this.
Amen!
I met the Colonel around 1975 when he was a judge at the Louisiana State Turkey Calling Championship. I had already read "Tenth Legion" at that time and was still trying to digest all of the knowledge contained in the book. I read the book every year before turkey season and I am still trying to digest its knowledge. He has always been one of the handful of people that I consider my turkey heroes. My heart and prayers are with him. He is truly a gift to the turkey hunting community. Although I have read "The Wild Turkey And Its Hunting" by E.A. McIlhenny (from the notes of Charles Jordan) as many times as I have read "Tenth Legion", the Colonel's admonition to the would be turkey hunter to read pages 188-212 of that book is probably the most important thing that the Colonel has written, and he has written words of great importance. If you see him in Nashville, Clark, please tell him so for me.
Glad to read that Mr Kelly is doing good after the treatments.
That's encouraging to hear. I hope he fights with the same energy he has put into hunting turkeys.
Glad to hear he's doing good, I'm new here so I didn't know he was ill, I just finished reading The Season, it was a good book, a little hard for me to read and comprehend at times, but still good! He will be in my prayers!
QuoteIf you see him in Nashville, Clark, please tell him so for me.
I will see him and I will do that.
Thanks,
Clark
