Title: Anybody use military camo?
Post by: jakesdad on January 25, 2015, 09:54:20 PM
Have seen some pics of desert camo that looks like it might blend in good with the ground early in the season with lots of browns.Do know several guys who use the old military woodland camo.Anybody use the military camo and what do you think of it as compared to other camo?

I carry a military spec rain poncho in woodland camo.
I don't have any other military style camo tho.  If you do your part and stay still, I bet it will work just fine.

I wear multicam pants. It's no so much for the pattern as much as the durability,  however the pattern seems pretty universal.

First time I went turkey hunting I wore Dad's Korean war Marine camo because mine was all packed away.  I called in 3 longbeards that morning.  I haven't been the same since.  Stay still and it doesn't matter.

tiger stripe jungle used to be a great late spring season camo.  Looks cool too.

I wear BDU camo pants sometimes, most of the time I wear light weight hikeing pants by North Face. The NF pants are solid green.  Turkeys don't seem to mind the solid color.

I think the desert camo will work just fine.

I wear woodland BDU pants quite a bit. Iv never been too concerned about the camo I wear. If you're still, they don't care. Period.

Military digital camo should work fine. Sitka uses digital camo in at least some of there patterns. Bottom line is like others have said, stay still and you can wear just about anything. Lots of turkeys were killed before camo existed.

When my son left the Marine Corps last year we chased a few turkeys & he wore his Marine woodland digitals. Absolutely fantastic camo pattern! I understand why the Corp uses it.

I've deer hunted for many years with the old woodland camo bdu's, Bil was in the national guard, so I got a lot of hand me downs.  I use mossyoak infinity for springtime, but I don't think it matters to much!

Military issue woodland BDU pants are my late season choice when things start to green up. The ripstop material is light and cool. Double knees and seat are great also.

If you are motionless, avoid bright colors, your clothing doesn't shine and you sit in the shade, you are good to go.

I use the new Marines green woodland camo and it blends in like no other in the terrain that I hunt. I love it and its a fraction of the cost compared to scentlock and under armour brands.

Yes, I do; got some of the digital pants & wore those almost all season long.  The hat is an SOG digital camo pattern, as well; stuck to a Realtree patterned shirt, tho.

An ideal camo pattern would be one-half good camo and one half a gray tree bark color split vertically.  Talk about breaking up the human outline.  It would look somewhat silly out of the wilderness, but then don't we already look somewhat silly.

Check out the German army "fleck tarn" pattern. It looks like it would be pretty effective and some of the surplus is pretty cheap. I wanted to try a ww2 style German smock in the "pea dot" pattern as it looks like it would blend in really good but it would give me the heebee jeebees looking like a Nazi lol!

I use my woodland digitals from when I was in the Marine Corps. Best camo I've ever used to hunt turkeys! Like markjm15 said it really blends in well in our neck of the woods!

I used my Woodland Camo BDU's for hunting for several years after leaving the US Army in 1982. At that time Woodland Camo was new! It worked very well.

I deer hunt in the woodland camo pattern (pants); I love the feel of these pants, and typically combine them will military-issued polypropylene tops & bottoms so I don't even have to wear all my heavy insulated stuff in the stand.  Unfortunately, MP Surplus in Newton, AL has closed its doors, so I'm searching for a new place -- if anybody has any suggestions in AL/MS/GA/TN/FL, shoot 'em my way!

Oh ya, the black wool gloves are *awesome*, too!!!  I love those things!

I think it's  movement over camo and miltary camo is just fine. When I was a teen I didn't have the first bit of camo. Wore my blue jeans, my jacket, orange vest, toted a lever action 30-30 and killed way more deer than I do now.
