Title: Long Beard XR choke tubes?
Post by: Gutsdozer on January 12, 2015, 05:35:48 PM
Hello all,

Hopefully it's not to early and people are reading the forums. I have been seeing a few chokes for the long beard XR. The Carlson's and the Trulock to be specific. Personally I was going to get an Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike. However, since these newer Long Beard labeled choke are out does anyone think that they would perform better?

I am using a Remington Express 12 gauge with a 28" barrel and Long Beard #5 3" shells.

Any help and advice is appreaciated

In my limited testing of the Longbeard ammo, the Indian Creek did well, 220+ pellets in the 10" with the 3" #6's. If you check out the pattern pics, they seem to shoot well with just about any choke. Good luck!

Sumtoy choke....
My gun put up 228 at 40 yds with the Winchester Longbeards 5's

Wow! I've got a box of 5's I haven't tried yet. Gonna have to add those to the spring patterning session. Those #'s in 5's would get the attention of most HTL shooters.

Sales joke.

We have not had to change anything really.  We run 650 range for numbers and 660 or 665 for the forgiving patterns.

any time a company makes one for a specific shell it generally is more for marketing and sales then anything else. I can see somewhat the purpose for the federal stuff just because of the wad difference but the XR shells have shown to shoot well out of most any choke out there, there is no need for a choke made specifically for it.

I was kind of wondering about it just being a gimmick. O and sorry about the no picture in my original post. It's been a while since I posted here and completely forgot about the picture rule.

Thanks for the responses.

I bought a Carlson's Longbeard choke in .660 for my Remington 11-87, 21 inch barrel. Shooting the #5 Longbeards, it put 158 in the 10 at 40 yards.
