Looks like some turkey killers in that group. I would play.

That's a team right there count me in .

Does getting all of you guys on the same team mean that jakes are going to be worth more than gobblers this year?
(...Might as well get the smack talk started, too)   ;D

I'm gonna need more help than that,...maybe X8 for some of us....

Several of us were on a team together on another forum the last time we played and won, but that was like taking candy from a baby. Denny, you may want to add callmakerman to your list.

Most of us are way past our prime, but the gobblers don't know that.

Sounds like it'd be fun. Count me in. How about Al and Josh Shoemaker also?
Title: Re: 2015 Spring Contest
Post by: hunter22 on January 04, 2015, 03:10:49 PM
Yep for Al & Josh. And John Brown also. If we are going to stack a team, we just as well do it right.

Joe Slaton was also on our winning team on the other forum. He is probably already recruited on here though. He normally kills gobblers that scores REAL high. I would love to duplicate my last year's triple bearded bird this year.

Rickey do you know if Noel will be released to hunt? What about Mark Sharpe?
Title: Re: 2015 Spring Contest
Post by: hunter22 on January 04, 2015, 03:54:05 PM
Noel is doing okay now. But I don't think he does any posting on here although he is a member. Not sure if Mark is on a team but if he is not he is another bonafide killer.

Rickey I am already on a team over here with Joe but if for some reason the trumpet thumpers split up I already told Denny I would be more than happy to fill a spot.  Good luck to all you guys this coming spring...John

John,

Sounds like you guys have a strong team for sure. Denny started putting a team together on here and I remembered the guys who played together a couple years ago and beat some stacked teams. I have never been on a team on this forum but sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck to you guys.
Title: Re: 2015 Spring Contest
Post by: hunter22 on January 04, 2015, 06:08:36 PM
I would play that game Denny. I know the other guys we have talked about getting on the team would also. Bill Lyman, Al, Drenalinld, Josh....... some of the best I have heard.

Denny,

I forgot about Crawdad, Old Timer 53, and Champ63. Heck, we could probably put together two teams and be hard to beat. Those three have what I like to call "EXPERIENCE" when it comes to turkey killing. They have been around the block a few times.

Those multi-bearded birds won't do you any good this year.  The rules have changed so that only the longest beard counts.

DANG !!!!     :o

I think I might be on the wrong team !!!

Turkeys in these parts only grow ONE beard.  Except for the one I killed in 2013.  But I think he was just passin' through.   :toothy12:

Title: Re: 2015 Spring Contest
Post by: hunter22 on January 07, 2015, 07:18:07 AM
I just read the contest rules and see that only one beard will be scored per gobbler. So much for only shooting multi-bearded birds this spring. Looks like them fattened up corn fed birds will be the ticket this year.
Title: Re: 2015 Spring Contest
Post by: Bigeclipse on January 07, 2015, 02:36:16 PM
How do I join a team?  I will admit this will only be my 2nd year hunting gobblers and have not tagged one yet.  I would say that technically last year was my true first year because the year before that I only hunted the fall turkey season and had ZERO idea what I was doing during that season.  Last year I actually called in 3 long beards through-out the spring season.  1 time I was busted and the other 2 times they hung up around 50 yards away which was too far to shoot.  I am a serious/avid deer hunter and I am slowly turning towards what we call the "dark side" of turkey hunting.  I have to say it is a freakin blast!  Definitely more exciting calling them buggers in.  Here in new York it is very hard to call deer in...more often you are patterning them as opposed to trying to call them in. I can see myself loving turkey hunting more than deer hunting...especially after I finally tag a long beard!

Glad to have Robert. Another one of those EXPERIENCED killers.

Denny--- You headed up the last winning team I was on so my vote is for you to lead us again. This site requires a lot more pictures and documentation but we can walk everyone through it. It makes it a little more difficult whenever you hunt by yourself though.

There has been a change in the rules for this years turkey contest. all the entries must be harvested from public land. The picture of the gobbler must have you and the wma sign in it. No private land entries. Looks like teams will be more equal with that rule. No more golden nugget hefties. LOL

Cleaver is still wet behind the ears. If Drenalinld plays I have a son older than him. He and I are going to Mississippi in March to chase some of those public land Easterns in the swamps. He may have to carry my gun for me when we do the power line walk which is at least 1 1/2 miles one way.

I see the Gobblermatic online scoring page, but is there a "manual" way to score a gobbler for the contest?  Pls post or PM me, if so.  Thx!
