I'm from south Florida and have always hunted in South or central florida. My ?? Is I'd like to go out of state next year 2016 since I probably won't draw a quota. So I'd like to go some where I could drive to in a day. 12-14 trip. Id like to go with an out fitter and not do a public land hunt. Like a 5 day hunt 2 birds. Just trying to plan ahead. Figured I could get some good direction to start. Would it be worth it to fly some where. Thanks.
If you're willing to fly I hunt the TX panhandle every year with an outfitter. Tons of birds, nice people, and you won't need 5 days to tag out. Can shoot up to 4 birds if you want. Probably fly into Amarillo then a 90 mile drive.
Been thinking about the same thing as Gobblerjim. Not trying to steal your thread Jim. I also live and hunt in central Florida.
If either of you two want to come to Missouri for Easterns or Oklahoma for Rios, I'd trade a hunt for hunt ...I need a Osceola to finish my slam.
I only hunt public land. Thanks though.
For me, flying has been the way to go for the last several years. I've been to Kansas and South Dakota the last two years, with a couple of buddies, and finished my Slam. If you have a buddy that can share expenses (motel, car rental) you can keep costs down and you can get to the Midwest for some GREAT hunting. If you shop for flights and have someone to share some expenses with, you can get by for around $1500 with license, tags and any outfitter fees inclusive. This can be reduced if you hunt public ground. I am planning a hunt to Wisconsin this year with a buddy and will possibly be going back to South Dakota also. Great experiences, Great hunting and Beautiful Scenery! Good Luck!

I also hunt public land but thanks for the offer.
When I say guided. What does a guide do? I want to do all the calling. I just need to get pointed in the right direction or area. Thanks
Then you want a semi guided hunt. Guided hunt mean that they take you out, call, and all. Semi guided means they give you the latest information on the birds and some of their habits, then drop you off with a good luck. Never done either but if I was going to use an outfitter it would have to be semi guided.

Our hunts have been semi-guided. Our guides knew the land and where the birds were by keeping tabs on them. They point and place you in areas with multiple birds but you do you own calling and use your woodsmanship to get within that magical 40 yard mark.
Ok cool. Semi guided hunt is definitely what I would want. Thanks for all the good I fo
