Title: Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota
Post by: longbeards on May 28, 2014, 02:14:23 PM
I hunted South Dakota and Montana this spring after retiring!! ANYWAY I ran into a couple of guys from Mississippi who had hunted Pine Ridge SD on the reservation.
I am in hope that some of you reading this may have hunted there in the past and can clue me into what it costs to hunt there? I have tried the tribal web page and it is down at the moment.

ALSO they told me there was a large tract of private land in the reservation that the land owner sold tags to,,,any insight into how to get hold of this land owner will be greatly appreciated !!

With Kind Regards,
Longbeads

I tried contacting them last year a few times. I had gotten an email address to one of the tribe who was supposed to be taking care of turkey hunting. I finally gave up. They don't seem interested in responding. I wouldn't waste my time being frustrated with them...Plenty of other places to hunt that are accommodating... :z-twocents:

I hunted Pine Ridge this year and had a good experience. There is some landowners that have deeded land that you can hunt with permission, but you have to apply for a tags threw the S.D game commission. I called the Ogalala Sioux Parks and recs and had them fax me a license application. I had already contacted the guide I wanted to use. He picks up your tags and brings them to you when you show up to hunt. Guide fees run $3-400 for a 3-4 day hunt. You can get up to 3 tags. I stayed at a hotel on the Res due to wet weather would not allow me to make to the place were I originally planned on staying. The weather was super nasty. PM me if you need more info.

Hey collector, glad you had a good experience. Maybe I just had the wrong combination to unlock the door. I'd love to have that experience and I'd be open to giving it another go if I knew I could actually make it happen...Maybe my experience was an anomoly...

I hunted there quite a few years back.  We were required to pay for a Sioux "guide", and I believe it was like $500 bucks.  We eventually asked him to stay in the truck and we killed birds.

FWIW, we were no more successful there than on SD public land, but yes, there were definitely birds there.
