Title: Anyone Ever See This Behavior
Post by: zelmo1 on May 27, 2014, 06:12:47 PM
I shot a nice Tom on a Wednesday and went back to the same spot on Saturday. Three Jakes worked in to my decoys, but that was not the strange part. They actually stopped right where the Tom died and pecked the ground violently for about a minute. Is this a dominance thing or did they just smell another bird. Weird because it was windy and rained in between. No feathers left from ol Tommy and I didn't think turkeys had a great sense of smell. Any info would be helpful.

This would seem to be quite unusual behavior for it to be a random act that just happened to be where your gobbler fell.  I suspect they smelled something there that got them excited.  I am convinced that turkeys do indeed have some sense of smell and will react to strange odors at times.

Weird for sure. Turkeys are supposed to have a crappy sense of smell. :OGturkeyhead:

I suspect bugs were attracted to the spot and they were just being opportunistic.
