Title: Pa turkeys?
Post by: Dakota_Knable on May 06, 2014, 07:30:38 PM
I've had no luck this year so far in pa. Seems like the birds will gobble right off the roost then shut up right away. Any help would be nice, Thank you!

Wait another week.  Imo things are a but delayed this year.   You have competition with hens now.  Hopefully weeks 2 and 3 will be hot.

Let them know you are there. Wait for them to finish up with the hens and get soft after fly down. Don't move until noon. They will come in some time to check you out.

Had one patterned and first light yesterday morning, what shoulda been a slam dunk never panned out.  He wasn't coming.

Got on another one around 7:30 or so.  He was a good 500 yards away on property I can't hunt.  Three hours later he was on my property, 39 yards in front of my SX3 and had his girlfriend in tow.

She's a single gal today.

His upside down pic is posted somewhere here in the general forum.

Patience, persistence, persistence and more patience.

I killed a good one this morning at 1010 am. He gobbled one time at 925 am and I answered him twice, that's it. It was quiet for nearly 45 minutes but I held fast and sure enough he appeared without making another sound in full strut at 35 yards, along with his girlfriend. She is looking for a new boyfriend now! LOL. PATIENCE is the name of the game. Remember turkeys have ALL day to do what they do, they don't wear watches!  :gobble:
