Sunday we went to a spot that I got permission to hunt the day prior. I don't think we would have got permission if it wasn't for the boy. He has been a trooper and been to KS and hunted MO with nothing to show for it. We screwed up and set the blind a little off the travel pattern and watched birds all morning. Had two separate instances of gobblers hammering at 75 yds but they wouldn't break. I watched jakes run the gobbler off yesterday so we went with 3 avians and my dave smith hen. Finally got two gobblers to break at just before 10 and Hunter laid the smackdown. The one in the back was the strutter and the one in front that he ended up shooting had a jake beard. He finally came close enough and I noticed the blonde beard rot. 1.25" spurs and 6 inch beard. Would've waited for the bigger one but it was intense and something needed to die so he unleashed. Big thanks goes out to the landowner. Super nice guy. Surprisingly they ignored the avians and came right into the dave smith
