When you guys are scouting on new land and looking at maps such as google and things what are some of the main things you look for that strikes you interest to hunt at that spot?
For turkey, and on land that I'm not familiar with, I'm looking for the fields. I look for long ridges or points that run down to the fields. That kinda gives me a starting point on likely roosts. If it's a big track that I'm unfamiliar with I'll carry a topo into the woods with me. It can help when your trying to figure out the terrain around that bird that's gobblin his head off on the roost. :anim_25:
I'm looking for drainage, trails leading out to high points, access to openings, small clear cuts , hardwood bottoms, access roads/trails if on private tracts, food plots, power line ROW,gas line ROW surrounding property makeup.
Most of my areas are pine plantations or natural pine stands .
