New guy here. I've never killed a turkey but am going to give it a shot when the season opens. Unfortunately I'm a weekend only type guy so I will miss opening day but will be hard at it come the weekend. I've been racking up the miles driving all over WA and OR and bought a tag for OR. I've ordered a few hundred dollars worth of junk from Cabela's and some of it's been showing up. I can't wait to try it all out. Headed out tomorrow to do some more scouting and I have a dentist appointment next Saturday followed by my final day of scouting, next Sunday. Opener is the 15th.
Here are a few duck pictures from this past season.

Black brant or sometimes called a Pacific brant.
Here is a short video of me shooting them.

Come to think of it, I don't know if my WA licence is good anymore. I can't remember when they expire. I always buy one but I've only ever hunted waterfowl in WA.
I'll definitely take all the help I can get but hopefully I get them in OR since that's where I bought my tag and have been focusing my scouting. I've never seen a BIG tom yet but lots of hens and some jakes.
While scouting in south central OR two weeks ago I did find a Columbian white tail wearing a radio collar and a green ear tag! I checked his ankles and he wasn't wearing a band. (waterfowl joke)

Is pic 1 Memaloose, and what happened to that duck in pic 2? It looks like you got it with an RPG!
Good luck this season! I'm heading for the Ochocos on the 13th.

There are two Memaloose in OR that I know of and it's at neither one. That picture is from AP ramp.
Funny. Maybe I'll see you in the Ochocos as that's were I was planning on heading today until my friend had to work. I have a dentist appointment the twelfth and will be headed there the 13th.
The duck in picture number two....
2 3/4" xpert 1 1/4 oz #2 Hevi-shot mod choke through a Beretta Onyx @ 10 yards
Here is a teal same load, same gun. Sometimes I don't see them until they're too close. I hate wasting an animal but I didn't do it on purpose.

Both birds were shot in flight.
To the haters;
If the teal was sitting on the water, her wings would be missing primary feather when the shot went through her. It's obvious that the wings on the teal were open when she was shot.
:welcomeOG:
Clyde, I wasn't being snarky about the bird in pic 2! Ground-sluicing honestly did not cross my mind. I just noticed that it's really, really, dead. ;D
Back in the 60's I beheaded a butterball on one of those up-close surprise shots. My buddies were really impressed with my skillful shooting, but truth be known, I was just as shocked as the duck when it flew into a cumulo-lead cloud.
:welcomeOG: Good luck!
Welcome aboard. I hope your duck hunting success carries over to your turkey trials. Too bad, though, the lab can't help...
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Scouted today and found two big toms with 8 jakes and a handful of hens.......on property that doesn't allow hunting! LOL OH WELL!
:welcomeOG: :wagon: Good luck this season.....

My woman has two brothers that live in Lewiston/Clarskston. Thanks.
I know it's nothing like some of the birds you guys are getting but cut me some slack! LOL Here is what I have so far.

Welcome aboard man!! That's a beautiful pup!! Best of luck to you this spring!! Hope to see your smiling face behind an Oregon gobbler!!
Welcome!
So Oregon opens on the 15th, too? I'm hunting Idaho, it also opens on the 15th.
Last year, evening of opening day, my buddy and I were back in camp (only a few miles from the border with Oregon) listening to the radio - some station out of LaGrande. Anyway, this old boy gets on there for a request and they ask him what he's doing. He replies: Well, I'm just sittin here waitin for turkey season to open.
I broke out in a cold sweat - we both hunted all day and I had a bird hanging outside. I run out to the truck to get the rule book, yep, we're legal. It took us a minute to remember that the station was out of Oregon. To add to that, we were in an area where we were told there would be a lot of guys hunting. There was nobody else around the whole time and we were trying to figure out what was going on. We still laugh about that. Glad to know we won't have a repeat of that this year ;D
Best of luck to you.
Not going to make it east for scout trip. I have to work tomorrow and I have some more land to scout in Lebanon/Sweethome area. It's a lot closer to home too....obviously. I hope it doesn't bite me in the for not heading east.... Time will tell.
Scouted some today. I couldn't get after it first thing as I had a dentist appointment.
Only found one hen. I had my eye on some good looking areas.....didn't see any turds or feathers or prints. :(
I got permission to hunt where I saw the hen, it's in a horse pasture. The guy who owns it says the birds come through in the early evening. He said there is four drakes that go through. This particular spot is only about 1 1/2 hour from my house so maybe it would be a good spot to try when I'm short on time or if I get off work at noon or something...
Picked up one of the first DSD hen decoys. It's never been used. I took it out of the package. A friend of mine won it at a raffle. It doesn't have a stand. I have some goose stands that will probably work. Maybe I'll call Dave or Brad, I served on the Oregon Waterfowl Festival board with them. Maybe they can hook me up.
