Saturday morning found me and my Dad in Kansas at a friends place. We had a spot in mind that we wanted to set up but got halfway there and heard 3 gobblers hammering about 15 yards from where we wanted to be. So instead of busting them we went down the hill to a clover field where the like to strut between them and there hens. The gobbled probaly 20 times in 10 minutes and then it went silent... All of a sudden I look up at here comes 1 of the gobblers into the decoys. He proceeds to duke it out with our DSD jake decoy and I finally got a chance to draw my bow. He went into a strut and I smoked him. He ran 15 yards and tipped over. Then all of a sudden the other 2 gobblers came out of nowhere and started to beat up on there buddy. A few soft calls later we had another gobbler in the decoys. My dad drew and put what looked to be a good shot into that bird. His bird flew about 20 yards and stopped and stood there for 20 minutes but we couldn't get another shot because he was behind a bush. Finally he hopped out (dad broke the birds leg with his shot) from behind the bush and I smoked him at 32 yards. After my shot the bird flew over the river bluff and crashed about 60 yards behind us. It was an awesome morning that I will never forget. Dad and I have never doubled with archery equipment (came close last year) so that made it even more special. Both birds where 2 year olds. 9 inch beards, 1 inch spurs and 20 pounds. I was shooting a Mathews Z7 with Goldtip XT Hunters and Rage Extremes, dad was shooting a Black Widow recurve with Easton FMJs and Magnus Snugfers. Sorry about the long read but thanks for reading
