Title: Best fan holder for strutter decoys
Post by: PALongspur on April 02, 2014, 08:36:41 PM
Just acquired a Carry Lite Bob'n Tail decoy and I'm looking to attach a real tail fan to it.

It looks like I could simply drill an appropriate size hole in a dried fan but I'm wondering if there is a beter way. Anyone have experience with some of the commercial holders that fold?

I've used JB Weld and/or Bondo to make a fairly thick layer that stands up to fairly rigorous field use.  Then drill a hole and use a bolt, nut, with large washers on each side.

Bolt is a pita in the dark. I got a large black plastic clip from walmart, bolted that to the decoy and just clip my dried fan in.  Leave upper part of stake bolted in and tie the two stakes together then just plant the bottom and slip in the top. no lost parts, far quicker.

Take one of those big black paper clips. Bolt to the decoy.  The use the build a packable decoy fan in the OG diy section and clip it in.
