I think Ipe and Brazilian Walnut are the same thing. I have not heard of Epe.

Ipe Pronunciation: Eee-pay  Rickey is right, Ipe is Brazilian Walnut. Used a lot in hardwood flooring.

I will say it makes a great striker. I have one from Fred Cox and one from West Augusta and they are both dandies.

It's known as Brazilian Ironwood....it's used as outdoor decking. I got some when it first became available and found it useless for a turkey call. It's too hard to really resonate sound.

I replaced all the wood on my Weber gas grill with it...holds up great in the weather.

It's hard...Like real hard and it don't rot at least for the first 20 years.  I've got a striker Gary Joffrion made me, and it's one of my favorites but other than that I don't know how it would work.

I, too, have found it makes a very nice striker! Also, I know a lot of guys use it for box call lids...
