Post by: surehuntsalot on March 03, 2014, 10:27:39 PM
While I was shooting yesterday,I had a couple of low brass dove loads in my bag,I wondered how they might do,so just for giggles,I shot some through the 835 and stardot

My friend kills more turkeys than anyone I know and he uses any type of shell he can find that morning.

I am going to use 2 3/4" & 1 1/4 oz #5 reloads, pretty hot for 2 3/4", to adjust my POA & POI at about 20 to 25 yards, on a SX3 that I haven't shot yet.  Once I have it adjusted I will switch to my turkey loads, to finish patterning.  I have never shot 2 3/4 loads to hunt turkeys and don't intend to, on public land much of the time you are lucky to get a 40 yard shot.  I wouldn't trust 1 1/4 oz #5 shot at that range, I am sure that it would probably be good to 25 yards, maybe 30.  I'd be scared to try a dove load.  I have loaded 1 1/2 oz #5's in the past that would have probably done 30 yards.
