Well fellas, after 19 years of chewing Copenhagen, I gave it up 2 days ago. I'm going nuts. I'm dizzy, got the shakes, can't sleep and I feel like I can't think normally. It's gonna be a long road but I'm gonna give it my best shot. Anyone else quit snuff and if so, how long am I gonna feel like I'm going nuts. Thanks.
Good luck. Wish I could give up the smokes cold turkey
:z-dizzy:More like a pause at this point! I chewed Kodiak wintergreen for almost 14 years and quit cold turkey, been 4 years ago this past groundhogs day! It's tough, hardest thing I've ever done! You can do it, just get some life savers or jolly ranchers. That worked for me, hang in there.
Hang in there buddy it will get better
I will say a prayer for you to have the strength to make it through. Good luck and I know you can do it.
Been there man.....17 years here and quit cold turkey. Been 8 years with not one relapse.
You can do it!

I wish you luck
Gave up redman and beechnut after over 25 years. Been quit 4-5 years. Easy to fall off the wagon, especially hunting and fishing. My 74 year old Father gave up chewing two years ago after 40+ years. Figure if he can do it anyone can. Just think about all the money you are gonna save for new shells, calls and guns even. Not even mentioning all the toms you won't spook because you won't get caught leaning over with your mask up spitting anymore. :icon_thumright:
I used Skoal and Wintergreen Timberwolf for 25 years. Been off it for about 12 now.
Stay strong. Ice Breaker mints help. They are strong enough to help.
You can kick it.
I chewed Copenhagen for ten years. Some weeks I went through more than a sleeve. (10 cans). Depended on how many ball games I played and how much beer I drank. I quit cold turkey 25 years ago. It was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do. (or not do, I guess). Hang in there. It can be done. It gets easier every day.. Good luck!!
Mike
Thats a hard thing to do!! Watched my dad try it many times! Will be praying for you buddy!!
God bless
hang in there I here it is darn tough to quit chewing
I quit dipping Grizzly wintergreen about 2 years ago. It was hard, no doubt about it. You just have to find things to keep your and your mind busy... very busy.
Good luck and God Bless, Steve
Good for you!!! You got about 6 weeks of bad road in front of you, Don't give in!!!! You will be glad you stopped!!! :anim_25: :jesus-cross: :jesus-cross:
Im a new guy here and do more lurking than posting. I am also 43 days into my quit. The forum quitsmokeless.org helps me greatly. You may wanna look into it. Stay strong my friend it will get easier. The worst for me was gone after 12 days or so.
Interesting thread.. something that has been on my mind or a long, long time. I took my first dip when I was 11 Been doing everyday, since I was 15, I'm 39 now. I think about quitting every time I take a dip. I actually did quit once about 3 years ago.... for a month. But I fell back into one night after a few beers.
My advise.. if you drink... stop.. at least for the first month. That is the easiest way to relapse. Get some of the fake dip and nicotine gum... it does help. But some are against this altogether.
I actually just loaded up on all this stuff last week... I was seriously thinking about giving quitting another shot. But decided to wait until end of April when Turkey season is over. I figured I would setting myself up for failure. That would be worse time to quit. ( sounds like a real addict huh ? )
Either way.. I'm quitting this junk before I turn 40. I'm tired of it controlling everything. Actually seeing this thread helps.
I can tell you, quitting will likely be the hardest thing you ever done. But it does get much easier after the first week or so. This junk is real powerful... keep us posted and best of luck!
You guys are right....I have given up all kinds of things in my life (smoking, drinking, etc.) and quitting dipping was no doubt and by far the hardest. Even after 8 years since I quit, if I see it or smell it, my mouth starts to salivate. I just force my brain into a mode where I tell myself that one dip will lead to two....then back to a can a day.
I simply refuse to fall off the wagon and relapse.

I have not had snuff since Labor Day 1998.
I chose Labor Day because it was a day I could easily remember.
The first month was the hardest for me. I was very irritable. Now if I smell a coworkers snuff it gets me nautious.
If I have any advice to give it would be to find something to do when you would be chewing. If that means taking a walk after dinner, etc. Quiting your addiction will be all in your head--it's a psychological addiction. You will not die from withdrawal like you could with alcohol and opiates which are physical addictions. So keep tricking your mind when you have the urge or routine of using snuff. Log onto OG, do push-ups, or whatever it takes. Jmho/e.

I am almost at my first year mark of no tobacco.
Easy to quit...NO...
Value your health! Things catch up with you...
We all quit for the same reason...not money, or any other reason but thinking about better life, cancer, long life etc...if. You care about what's best...it should be easy to push through it!
It has been four years this month since my last chew or dip and I was chewing a pack of Levi and a can of dip a day.
It will be tuff but, you can do it ! :anim_25:
i started when i was 15 my brother would buy it for me i been tobacco free for about 3 months its hard give up i found chewing gum helped just hang in there i had the shakes and a head ache for about 1 and a half
That's for the words of encouragement . I'm feeling a lot better today, but still have the craving. No doubt the hardest time for me is going to be when I'm out in the woods. It's gonna be a challenge.
good luck
Good Luck to you!! I am currently trying to quit myself. I am currently on day 4 of Chantix and it is helping me. I am still dipping a litte bud cut way back. Small Steps!!! Hopefully next week my urge to dip will be gone. I would recommend talking to your doctor. I finally did and I feel that I will beat this.
13 months into no smoking, hardest thing i've ever done by far. It WILL GET BETTER, Good luck
Sunflower seeds
I chewed for almost 20 years, quit about two years ago and I don't miss it. I used gum and sunflower seeds to help.
One big motivator was thinking about all the money I was wasting on it and half of it was going to Uncle Sam!

This and the fact I did not want to end up having my sown to my face to replace my lips or jaw......the real thought of cancer scared me straight. Just took 17 years for that to actually really sink in.
stick with it man! it gets easier. I quit cold turkey almost 2 years ago and hardly think about it these days!
This April 4th will be 2 years quit. I started when I was 14 and quit at 37. Definitely tough, but you can do it. I chewed and spit sunflower seeds until my jaws hurt and my lips where raw, but it no doubt helped me through. With me it wasn't even about the nicotine. I was just addicted to having something in my mouth and spitting. The craving takes a long time to go away, and I'm not going to lie, I could get a dip today and enjoy it. I have got to a point that I really don't think about it anymore. Gets better with time. Hang tough, it's worth it and you'll be glad you did. Good luck!
It's not easy I know, was quit for a year then my house flooded during hurricane Issac. Started again while redoing the house.
Just quit again this past December. Harder the second time. Sunflower seeds, peppermints, and lifesavers help but you have to want it bad to stay off of it. Hand in there every day it gets a little better. When you get the urge don't give in and it will pass.
Good Luck and hang in there.
Good luck!!! You can do it!! :icon_thumright:
I've been off of Long Cut Wintergreen for 10 years or so. I still get cravings especially when I'm fishing. You can do it though, just have to let the urges pass.
I chewed from about age 17 to 25 and dipped from 25 to 44. I'm 49 now and quit cold turkey 5 years back on New Years Day. Tried twice to quit for others sake...no dice. What finally did it for me was the trouble it caused when using both duck calls and turkey diaphragms. Got tired of pulling calls apart to clean out the gunk and dropping the reeds in the water or flat out ruining my turkey calls. Once I convinced myself I was becoming a less effective hunter :z-winnersmiley: the decision was easy. Now I sure did go through a boat load of sunflower seeds for a few months but have not fallen off the wagon. Best of luck to ya and be strong, you can do this. :anim_25:
Well, I dipped Skoal and Copenhagen off and on for years. Started when I was 12 yo playing ball. Decided one day to just quit and I did.. cold turkey.. never had any problems. I didn't dip for about 10 years. Well, I started dipping Skoal again a few years ago and have tried a couple of times to stop and after a couple of weeks couldn't stand it.. I figured since it was so easy for me the first time, this "time" should be just as easy. Boy, was I wrong... both times after a couple of days I was getting headaches, became really irritable and just felt awful.. I know I really need to quit especially now that I have elivated blood pressure and high cohlesterol.. I really do believe that the tobacco companies have played with the chemicals to make it more addictive.. Anyway, I'm there with ya brother and wish you the best of luck....
I was a 3 can Copenhagen a day guy for 30 years. I have been quit for 4 years and quit cold turkey. It's all mental man I struggle every day wanting a dip. But hang in there after a few weeks it gets better. It's a very hard thing to do. Don't give in!!
I quit probably 18 years ago. I had not been dipping/chewing/smoking but for about 4 or 5 years prior to that, but it was still hard. Like everyone else says it gets better with time. I even had night sweats a couple of nights while I was getting off of it.
Be tuff brother! You can whip it...
Good luck to you.
I have watched my dad struggle with it for almost as long as I can remember. It seems like he will quit for 6 months to a few years and then one day you smell it on him again. Those time are especially frustrating knowing that he had done so well for a period of time only to slip back into it again. He's currently been off it for close to a year and hopefully he stays away from it this time. My grandpa has been the same way, on and off every so often. I have also watched my mom smoke since I was a kid as well and I try to get her to just give a little effort to quit but she never has and probably never will. Writing this post is honestly making me a little sad because I can see the effects it has had on my mom with her breathing. She won't admit to it, but you can tell she's out of breath at the slightest activity and has developed coughing that is bad in the mornings, and on and off throughout the day.
Seeing how tough it is, I'm glad I never got started on any of it and I never will.
I hope you can stay strong and stick with it. Just keep coming back to this thread if you need some motivation.
