Title: Keep us in your thoughts and prayers
Post by: allaboutshooting on February 17, 2014, 11:48:32 PM
On Saturday morning Doris slipped in the shower and was badly injured. If you know her, you know that she's very tough and never likes to admit that she's hurt.

She hit her head and ribs very hard. Hard enough that when I learned of the injury, we sought professional help. It was bad. She had a severe contusion to her forehead and rib cage area.

The professionals examined her and did not believe that she had a concussion, gave her ice packs to apply to her forehead and advised that I keep an eye on her and ask her to refrain from strenous activities.

I did my best to do that but it was difficult. Since we've been home, we've consulted with our family medical docotor and I'm trying to keep her from overexerting herself. She's also supposed to keep her cognitavie skills to a minimum.

Doris is the toughest person I know. I've seen her endure some very severe pain and never admit that it hurt at all. She's a stoic.

This could have been much worse that it was but frankly, it's very bad.

Your thoughts and prayers will be appreciated.

Thank you,
Clark

Thank you all for all your thoughts and prayers. Doris is making progress in her recovery. It's been an interesting few days since we've returned from Nashville.

My wife is a very tough woman. She never complains and never wants to admit that she had pain. After 43 years with her, I've learned that I can only ask her to take it easy but she will do what she will do. I'm sure most of you understand that.

Some of the swelling has gone down but a lot of discoloration remains. She has an abrasion and contusion just above her left eye on her forehead. Both eyes are somewhat swollen and there is discoloration above and below both of them. Her ribs, probably a couple, are fractured, so she has pain when breathing deeply or sneezing. Nothing we can do for them, just keep her breathing deeply to keep pneumonia away.

We have our NWTF banquet this Saturday and she is the treasurer. That means she will be front and center collecting money. A good friend died on the 14th and we went to visitation this evening. She was embarrassed at the bruising on her face and I understand that. She had a lot of questions about it, most thought she'd had some surgery but she explained what had happened. We were in line for about an hour, so she had lots of time to tell folks.

It's now just a matte of time until the bruising goes away. I'm so thankful that it was not worse. She's the love of my life and I don't know what I'd do without her.

Thanks,
Clark

P.S. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to bring you all up to date.
