The other week as I talked to a striker builder about the sound I wanted,He had noticed that hunters further up north liked a higher pitched call and hunters further down south liked deeper pitched calls.I wondered if other call builders have noticed a pitch preference by regions?Or as hunters what pitch do you prefer.I live in the Piedmont area of NC.I prefer a deeper darker pitch with a lot of rasp.IN the end I know it's the turkeys that tell me what pitch they want, but I always start with the sound that I have the most confidence in.
Start with one that sounds like a "real turkey" and not a turkey call.
I listen and mimic to the calls I hear on the/ tree top - real turkeys / Lovett Williams CDs , and the ones in the woods --
Start with one that sounds like a "real turkey" :fud:
Not to sure if that's true or not. I like rasp in my calls and if it tells you anything I hunt and build Turpin style box calls and live in NY. Turpins are deeper toned than the Cost style boxes and the birds love it.
