I don't own either and have never played the Halloran, but did get a chance to run a Vintage Hen last yer at the convention.  I thought it was the best Woodhaven friction call I've ever heard, but with that said, I wasn't going to spend the bones they're asking for it either.  I actually liked it much better than the Vision crystal...but don't own that one either.  Just the ol cherry classic crystal for me...haha.  I have run many Hallorans and really like them.  I'd say the Twisted Sister is my favorite Halloran.

I have the Vintage hen.  I like it, but not as much as the Vision crystal.  I have had the Vision crystal for a number of years.  It flat works for me.  I got the Vintage late last year and quite frankly didn't have room for it in my vest to take hunting.  I will give it a go this year.

Never owned a Halloran, but have hunted with people that ran them.  They sound good.

Thanks Guys, I really like glass calls and also need a bigger vest to carry all of them. I have the vision crystal, classic cherry crystal, southlands yellow heart crystal, lon trice glass over glass, wendell's glass over slate, cody drop dead glass pot, had a crystal mistress I sold to get a twisted sister. But still don't have enought glass calls. All the other makers I didn't mention, I haven't gotten into my slates, aluminums, copper and ceramics. LOL

It will be a few days or a week before anyone can give feedback.David just started selling them 2 days ago.I plan to pick on up before season.

I must say the twisted sister is all turkey to me.

I hope someone here gets their hands on one soon and can make a sound bite, I just want to know if the sound is different enough from my twisted sister to warrent carrying both into the woods.

I asked George at Midwest Turkey Call to give me his feedback on Halloran's new call compared to the Crystal Mistress and the Twisted Sister.  Here's what he told me...

This new call is similiar to the other two in sound, but way

ahead of them in beauty with cedar laminate mixed in with earth tones in the pot and a striking full color image of a gobbler on the soundboard.

We will have a full color image up on our website later this coming week.

I talked to David Halloran earlier this week about his take on differences and I tend to agree.

Tone wise Twisted Sister is the deepest, Crystal Mistress in the middle and new Top Shelp with the highest pitch. All have good rasp and rollover.

I had one of the old cracklings crystals a couple of years ago until I did some trading.  It sounded good like the rest of David's calls. But it seems the wood combination was different, it was still a laminate call. Does anyone else remember the old one?

Forgot that dirtnap has a Vintage Hen and he thinks that call is similar to the Cherry Classic Crystal,  my guess it that it's a limited edition collectors call. Who ever won that one in Bingo last year did get a great prize.

I'm waiting on my local shop to get the cacklin' crystal in. Aren't they custom ordered? The guy at the shop said he talked to David and he said he would only send out 3 at a time.

And? Don't do us that way. Please provide your opinion, most of us already have the crystal mistress, twisted sister or both.

Thanks

This is my frist crystal pot and my frist halloran call.

I 'am sure you will kill many birds with it. All of the Halloran calls are good calls. I killed my first bird with a crystal call and will swear by them. If I were left out in the woods with only one call to my name I would hope it was a crystal pot call.  Nows thats just me, I know others have to own to go to call.

Its a little higher pitched then the mistress or sister and a little crisper in sound,  very easy to run and talks softly with ease also.  Scoot

Played one yesterday. Crisp and raspy. If you like the mistress then you will definitely like this one

I just picked up the Cacklin Crystal at the NWTF show this weekend at David's booth. I ran them all and the Crystal Mistress and the Cacklin Crystal were my favorites of course but I had to go with the top shelf. I gave my chills. Lol. Im no expert on his calls for it being my first one but you cant go wrong with either. I really liked the way the call played with the Wenge wood striker he has.

Can you guys compare the sound of the Top Shelf to the Twisted Sister? I picked up a Twisted Sister last year and had great success with it. I'm just curious if there's enough difference between the two to have them both in my vest.

I have both and in my opinion the cackling crystal is a little higher pitched and not quite as raspy,  they do sound different though,  in my opinion the crystal mistress and twisted sister are closer in sound.  The cacklin crystal has a glass soundboard where the mistress and sister have a slate one.  Scoot

Thanks scoot. David has some older videos on his site, I wish he would put a newer one up where he runs the mistress, sister, and cackling. Unfortunately he doesn't come to any shows in my area so I don't have the opportunity to check them out in person first.

The cacklin crystal is loud. Higher pitched that his slate soundboard calls.

I went ahead and ordered a cackling crystal a couple days ago. I'll share my thoughts on it when it arrives. I may also try to put up a sound file of it and the Twisted Sister so anyone that is considering them can hear the difference between the two.

I ran them all at the NWTF convention and they all sounded great! I did like the vision a little better than the others, it seemed smoother to run to me...  The sound of the call was defiantly higher pitched than the other calls as well.

I did go by the Oak Ridge game calls booth, these calls are made by Jimmy Schaffer and boy will they run!! In fact I thought they sounded better than Hallorans calls... JMO I will made a video and post it up for you to hear.

The vision is made by Woodhaven and in my opinion it is one of the finest sounding crystal calls out there,  it definitely has a different sound to it but runs with ease,  Jimmy Schaffer makes a great call,  I have a blue mahoe crystal over cherry soundboard from him that sounds great.  Scoot

Gotta love the mail lady some days......I got both the Mistress and the new Cracklin in the mail today.

Have one of his box calls but these are my first of his pots.  I am petty amazed at the quality I see here.

They both sound amazing and are uniquely different from each other in tone and pitch.

I am loving this combo right now, brings down the high pitch to a sweet little Jenny hen.

I picked up a blue Mahoe from Shaefer as well and I really like it. As far as Halorans calls, I liked the new cackling crystal the best and wouldn't hesitate buying that call

Have had the Crystal Mistress and really like it.  Bought the Top Shelf at the convention and agree that they are distinctly different sounds with the Cacklin' Crystal being "clearer" and "higher" pitched.

Headed to Texas in early April and will probably take both.   Any recommendations??
