Title: I hope you know
Post by: allaboutshooting on November 22, 2013, 06:43:25 PM
I never "trash" any product, service or individual. We all have bad days and if we could, would change what we said or did. I've learned that by making many mistakes over the years.

Life goes on, with or without us. The most that we can hope is that we've done our best and been fair and honest.

Now, I have a problem. I purchaed a Sears "Garden Tractor" a few years ago, for about $5,000.00. I use that tractor to mow and tow a trailer around our place. It has an hour meter, it it has less than 800 hours on it.

For the last 6 months, I've been waiting for the steering gear to be repaired. I paid for the parts and labor in June and have been waiting for it to be repaired.

Parts were back ordered, and I understand that but Doris and I have waited for 4 different days, once on our anniversary, guaranteed that the repair man woould show up between "8 and 5" and the repair man never shows up, no call, he just never shows up.

I'm pretty patient but would like to know how you'd proceed, given all these circmustances.

Thanks,
Clark

Unless this is warranty work and they are the only ones who can do it, I'd find someone else.
Sadly, most of the mower repair places around here seem to take forever and miss deadlines  as a routine.
My buddy has had his in the shop one time for two months this year and another time since mid-August and it's STILL not done.  I mowed for him and he's still without.  But mowing season is now over.

Sears uses sub contractors. When one of their guys came to do warranty work on my tractor I had to dig out some nuts and bolts for him from a bucket I keep in the shed.

The steering gear was completely worn out and it would not turn left.

Very true! And usually very sub par contractors at that..A buddy of mine is a dept manager at one of the big box home improvement stores and has told me more than a few horror stories involving warranty work done by their subs.I am sure that their are good ones out there, but sadly it seems to be a growing trend.Hope you get it straightened out Clark.Maybe call Sears corporate and explain the situation and let them know if it isn't taken care of by them you will have it repaired on your own and bill them.Sometimes going straight to the top of the food chain works!Good Luck,...ward

You have already paid for the parts & labor? I would be contacting the store that you paid, giving them a copy of your receipt and explain to them they have "X" amount of time to get it fixed or you will be contacting the company's home office, your's states Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau. I know it sounds a rash & harsh, but they have had your money for approximately 6 months and it's time you get what you paid for....you have been more than patient. I understand about back ordered parts, but when they schedual to come & do the work then don't show up...something it's right.
