Title: Primos Tight Wad Choke w/ Hevi Shot Question
Post by: WV_turkey_dude on May 03, 2013, 12:12:13 AM
How many of you all have tried this combo (Primos Tight Wad Choke) with Hevi Shot?  I have a Mossberg 835 and I have ordered the Tight Wad choke.  The reason I went with the Tight Wad is because it advertises it can be used with hevi shot, and it is also just slightly tighter restriction than the stock choke (.690 versus .695).  i actually do not want the pattern "over tight".  I understand all 835's pattern differently, but I was hoping for some feedback here.  I was thinking 3.5" Hevi 13 #6's, #7's, or Hevi Shot Blend (5,6,7).  All help is greatly appreciated.

Can't comment on the Tight Wad but I did run a .690 Jelly Head in my 935.  It showed out with 3.5" Hevi 6s. I later swapped it out with a SSX since the JH didn't like lead too much.

I have heard nothing but good comments out of the Primos Tight Wad choke.  I never have shot one.  I did buy one a couple of years ago for like $5 since a local store had them and some Jelly Heads on steal prices.  The one I bought I gave it to a guy on here free of charge.  He said it shot real well.  I would run some either Hevi-13 7's or 6's through it.  I think you will be surprised with the outcome.

And  :welcomeOG:

Good luck with the choke, and please take the time to post some photos of how it patterns.  Remember to shoot big sheets of eithe paper or cardboard so you catch most if not all of the pattern.  And it's ok to tape a turkey target to the bigger sheets of cardboard and just aim at your turkey target.  But draw your 10" circle around the dnesest part of the pattern after you shoot each time so you can see the true potential of the choke and load.  And also shoot at either a tape measured 40yds or lasered.

Have fun.

Brad

I will do so (pic with the set up you are talking about).  I have to decide what hevi shot to use, but it looks like everyone is using 6's, 7's, or Blends.  It will likely be one of those.

There's a guy that uses a Tight Wad choke.  I know I have seen some patterns from a guy that used a 20GA TSS load and a Tight Wad choke that were amazing.

Tightwad .655 in my Benelli is the tightest of my 12ga's at the moment, best was 276 in 10" with 3.5" 2 1/4oz 7's.  Have a .570 for my 20gauge but havnt tried it yet.
