After hearing no gobbles all morning, which is very rare in the area I'm hunting, I had a bearded hen come into my set up. I've never seen a bearded hen before and I've been hunting this private land for years now. I know a lot of guys frown upon killing hens, but I told my self this is a 1 time deal and I'll never do it again. So I filled a tag on a big ol lady that sported a nice 7 1/4 inch beard. I know the area I'm hunting has a great number of birds on it. My buddy and I have trapped the area for years taking off countless of coons and possums to help get the population as good as it is today. So here she is, my first and only bearded hen.

Congrats! Don't feel like you need to justify your harvest, it's a beautiful bird and your choice to kill it.
congrats to each his own trophy

Thanks for the kind words fellas. I'm happy I chose to take her. I'm not gonna lie, lots of thoughts were going through my head when I was making the decision to take her or not. She'll be good eating for sure.
That would make an awesome mount! They are kinda rare so it's a trophy for sure.
Congrats on a great bird!
nice bird
Congrats!!
I always say that if its legal and ethical, and you want the bird, go ahead and shoot it!! I've had the opportunity to kill several bearded hens, but every time I've been in a place that didn't allow it. Congrats on your bird!! :icon_thumright:
Nice! I too once shot a bearded hen awhile back when I used to hunt turkeys in the fall. Too busy chasing bucks and ducks in the fall so I don't hunt turkey in the fall anymore. Anyway, I too was hesitant, but decided to take her. I figured it would be the only time I would do so. Congrats.
Nothing wrong with taking out a bearded hen. Save those wing bones for a call.
