Post by: SCDieselDawg on April 18, 2013, 05:49:56 PM
Anybody got any experience with the Colonial Arms "Star Dot" chokes? I'm thinking about one for my Moss. 935

Try the Colonial Arms website. There is a notice on there that they are available.

I just took the opportunity while on break to use the search function. I was mainly curious if the newer ones are different from the original. There were some conflicting stories. But either way I may order one just to give it a whirl and decide for myself.

All the 835 guys are waiting for someone with both an original, and one of these new ones to say that they pattern the same with popular turkey loads.  If that starts to happen, then all of the guys who have been wishing and hoping for an original 835 / 935 Star Dot will order one of these new ones and be done with it.  Until there is a guinea pig or two, we'll never know.

I'm not an 835 guy, but I find the Star Dot legend interesting.  They shoot HTL pretty well in guns other than 835 / 935, but they are not the bees knees in those other guns.

Myles on here has got one of their newer .676 chokes to try that they sent him from the first one he bought that was bigger and didn't shoot as good.  I don't think he has shot it yet with turkey season going on.  But I told him to let me know.

I'm torn between the Star Dot and the Tru Glo SSX. I already have a good shooting choke in a JellyHead I'm just curious if I can find better. I'll probably start with the SSX till I hear more from the new Star Dots.

The SSX is a good match for the 835/935.
Very even, killing patterns.

Yep. I have it. Just haven't made time to run some rounds through it. This one is identical to the star dot, not like the other .680 they sent the first time. Should be a shooter.

Thanks buddy for the response.   And remember only about 100 folks or so will be waiting on your final verdict.  So don't feel the need to rush.     I know that you will give a us a fair and objective analysis.

If the Star Dot was just a little tighter in RemChoke and INV+, I believe it would help with the Lead patterns some.  It shoots HTL just fine, but the Lead loads could benefit from a little extra constriction, IMHO.
