I have a 28" 870 SM and I have a .665 JH in it right now. It shoots great patterns with hevi #6 and #7 but I have 6 new boxes of the old remington hevi shot in 3.5" 1 7/8 oz #4. I have shot them through the same .665 JH and I get 120 in a 10" circle. I know that anything over 100 is plenty but I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with different chokes and hevi #4 in their 870. I was thinking about trying a slightly more open choke like the factory super full or even a ventilator just to see if I can get any better numbers. Any other recommendations or experiences would be welcomed. Thanks.
I'd say those numbers are really good for #4s.
Holding 120 Hevi 4's in the 10" is a really great pattern! Especially for only 1 7/8 ounces of those #4's!
that smoking good for #4
That sounds good to me.

I would normally think 675 for #4s ; if you are getting 120 with anything I would be set. Those are unbelievable numbers for #4s and plenty lethal .
120 #4's you don't need to change a thing
That's really good for the HEVI #4s and with the energy they have you won't have any problem killing a bird!
Hevi 4s would drop and ostrich DRT I'd think!
you my friend have a killer!!! :z-guntootsmiley:
