I took my first Turkey ever yesterday on the opening day of Spring Turkey season, here in Eastern Virginia. I used a Remington 20 gauge youth model that I built up specifically for Tom Turkeys after reading many of the fine posts made here at Old Gobbler.com in the 20 Gauge section. My gun wears a 21" vented barrel with a Carlson .575 choke, a Remington Sureshot stock,a Nikon TurkeyPro scope with Burris Xtreme Tactical low rings. I used Federal Heavyweight #7's to shoot my Bird at 30 yards in the woods. It was a tight shot. Two birds were coming over the ridgeline in thick woods after hanging up for about 20 minutes. My hunting buddy saw them first and although I was right next to him, I could not see a thing, but I knew they were coming. All the sudden I saw a flicker of movement, moving from left to right behind a tree. I put my reticule quickly to the right side of the tree and suddenly the turkey's head and neck appeared in view with the rest of his body being concealed by the angle of the ridgeline. I squeezed and my little 20 did the rest. It really was an awesome hunt and I am very grateful to have taken such a magnificent creature in this Great Circle of Life. I will never forget it!
Congrats!

WTG on your first bird, congrats. Yes, you will be hooked for life!
Fantastic bird and a terrific hunt! Looks like you really understood and embraced the philosophy of the 20 gauge.
When will everyone understand that you don't shoot the entire bird, you just shoot his head? The 20 gauge with appropriate choke tube and shells is awesomely capable of doing just that.
FullChoke
