Title: HW # 6's numbers
Post by: Chilly on April 01, 2013, 02:43:08 PM
Just curious, What kind of numbers are you guys getting with the Fed HW 1 1/2 oz load of #6's?  I have a pretty decent looking pattern with them but I need to count them tonight.  I'll try to post a picture and the numbers tomorrow.  Shooting the Wifes 1100 LT 20 magnum and a SSX choke 21" barrel.  Might just have to make this my go to gun...

I am averaging 120 with them in my 21" 870 with a sumtoy.

The highest I've hit with 6 s is 119, however I've only shot three times. Once out of three chokes. I shot a 119, 112, and 102. To be fair the pattern that was a 102 could be shifted and would go up to a 110 TO 115 pattern.

I have seen 2 killed this season with HWT 6's and 2 killed with Hevi 6's and they both absolutely hammer gobblers! If you can turn 120 consistently with HWT 6's you will have a wrecking ball!

I finally got time to count last night.  I got 100 pellets in a 10" circle.  That is with the SSX choke which I think measures .570".  The Remington Super Full Turkey choke threw a quite a bit more open pattern at 40.  I think it measures .575 or .578.  Both of those numbers are stuck in my head for some reason.  I might just have to order a SumToy to try....

You won't regret the SumToy that is for sure!

My best 6 pattern out of the three shots was a 570 choke

I have been using the Federal HW#7 and getting really good patterns at 40 yards with the Remington SF choke.

I am getting low on 7's and had a chance to get some 6's at a good price so I bought them.

I only tried them at the range once and they will surely kill a turkey but the numbers were pretty low for me. 78 in a 10" circle at 40.

I am sure a better choke will help and I will look into it if I run out of the 7's eventually.
