Made my first box call this weekend. Nothing fancy, just something fron which to learn.
Works great left to right, nice and raspy - sounds like a hen. Right to left not so much. Kind of high and squeaky. Could this be a grain issue on the side panel? The proiles of the lid and sides are pretty symetrical. I know the wood I was using liked being worked one way cross grain better than the other (when I was shaping the lid).
BTW - I jut used a piece of 1/4 inch hobby/project oak I bought at the home center.
I'm going to use it, and make some more. Sounds as good as any I ever bought left to right.
Any ideas or advice appreciated.

looks good to me, my dad has made some and i carry one of his in my vest rather that a store bought call mainly because he made it but it also has called in several gobblers for us, keep up the good work.
