Title: Choke question?
Post by: Chilly on March 21, 2013, 09:20:12 AM
I have got a remington 1100 LT20 magnum that is my wife's turkey gun.  I have two different chokes for this gun.  A Trugo SSX and a factory Remington Turkey Extra full lead only(I think that's what it says on it).  I had been shooting either 3" 1-1/4oz Hevi #6's or Nitro 1 7/16 oz H276C 4,5,7 shot and having decent killing  patterns with the Hevi's and good killing patterns with the Nitros.  Both using the SSX choke.

I ordered a box of 3" Federal 1-1/2oz HW #6's with FC just to try in this combination.  I know it is ok to shoot these loads out of the SSX but they don't reccomend due to being ported, but I have read on here that some have not noticed any difference whether ported or not.
Is it safe to shoot it out of the RSF lead only choke?
Opinions please.

Not only no problem but good patterns using H-13s in #6 or #7 and  Fed HW7.

I bet that rem choke will smoke that ssx with the fed heavyweights.

Hopefully we are going to get some decent weather this weekend so I can shoot a little.  I got my Federal HW #6's in yesterday (3" 1 1/2oz)  can't wait to see what they do.  I could not find the #7's anywhere I looked.
Does anyone else have this gun \ combination and how are your patterns?

Actually, it was the other way around in this little gun.  The SSX put up quite a bit better pattern with the FED HW 6's at 40 yards.  The pattern was tighter and more even.  I may be ordering a SumToy soon just to see if I can make it even better.
