How many turkeys have y'all harvested legally over the years?
51: 37 Rios, 9 Easterns, 4 Merriams, 1 Osceola

Not completely sure. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 18-20. Not that many I know but not bad for only being 25. Didn't start turkey hunting till I was 17.

About 600 hundred last night in my dreams....Agh I need it to be spring already!
A little confused by the negativity on this thread already. The op just asked a question. I'd be curious to know what typical bird numbers over a certain time period are. I don't judge myself off of other hunters numbers but always like to hear from guys with more years under them.

The four laughing guys above symbolize the 4 years I have suffered the agony of defeat
4 longbeards, 4 jakes. All Easterns.

I don't see any problem with anyone keeping track of the number of birds they have killed, or the number of deer they have shot, or the pounds of fish they took. No one on here hesitates to tell about how long the beard was, or the length of the spurs, or how many points on the latest buck. Whether one chooses to share that information with the world or not, that is their own business.
6. All in Pennsylvania. Never hunted turkeys out of state and started hunting em about 7 years ago. I'm 31 yrs old.

Counting fall birds, not a clue, I've been hunting over 40 years and have killed lots more fall birds than gobblers. But have done well on the Gobblers Hunting in three differnt states. Never really tried to count .
I use to keep up with them many yrs ago until I couldn't remember how many. I have a hard enough time trying to remember how old I am.
Man, if I kill one a year I'm a lucky dog.
Don't know exactly, but nearing 150. However, I have hunted them for a very long time. Now I mostly guide other hunters. Just as much fun as I usually get to call them up. All but a handful are Easterns.
My total is six lower than I hope it will be when this season ends. :funnyturkey:
That would mean I tagged out everywhere I hunted this year. I'm hoping!! :fud:
I have killed 31 Easterns, but the only reason I know how many is I keep a lanyard of spurs.
95 with a bow and 26 with a gun.
Somewhere between 15-20.....all Osceolas
35 mix of gobblers (being the most) & hens (fall). All easterns.
12-13 or so.Maybe 50 50 split between Jakes and Longbeards. 1 hen.
My first one in 1965 and my last one in 2012. So that's two. I didn't know me and Flydown were tied.
What was the question again ???
I'm working on my 2nd hundred toms, and don't really care if I ever reach that level...
I'll hunt hard for sure, but I'll just let nature takes it's course more from now on....
But I do love me some gadgets, so turkey hunting should remain fun for me :)
mudhen
Not sure how many, but I got the same feeling from the last one that i got from the first.
They still tear me up when the get in front of me strutting & gobbling.
11 Toms in 6 years, I've had the pleasure of calling in a few for other people and just being along for the ride on others.
I'll lose track eventually just like I did with deer, but for now I can remember the details of each and every harvest like it was last week. Looking forward to many more opportunites hopefully in all different states
13 turkeys (8 Jakes, 5 Adults)
31 Deer (13 Males, 18 Females)
And proud of em all. I keep a running list with dates, locations, times, animal stats, etc.
I have only been hunting turkey for three season's
First Season:
1-Eastern Tom
Second Season:
2 - Eastern Toms
1 - Rio Tom
1 - Merriam Tom
Third Season (only got to hunt one day because of work):
1 - Eastern Tom
6 - 3 Mississippi easterns, 3 oklahoma rios
Lost track of the running total years ago but I do remember my best total in a single year being 16.
Started killing a few in the 80's...took most of the 90's decade off due to raising kids and their activities and restarted killing a few in the 00's to current...never kept count but around 40 easterns all in GA

Many dead turkeys (28 yrs worth), I'd rather list the states. Colo., Wyo, SD, NM, Tx, Mo, Wa, and Ne..
The turkey gods frown upon such pronouncements.
:TrainWreck1:
I believe Ded Goblr is on the right track and free from incurring the wrath of the turkey gods by stating years and states. With that in mind, my turkey killin goes back 30 years and includes hunts in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Here's a pic of the one that started it all.

I try to keep up with mine! I'm around 35 birds over the last 22yrs and I can almost remember all the successful hunts vividly! All my birds have been taken right here in Mid Tennessee!
This will be my 6th year hunting turkeys. Haven't kept a good count. I'd say 15 or so including 2 or 3 in the fall. Lost my poise, rushed the shot and missed one with a bow last fall.
After the first one your hooked forever. :gobble:
Not enough
I've started turkey hunting in 1983 and killed my first one in 1985. I've killed turkeys in CA,OR,ID,SD,NE,CO,NM,AZ,TX,MO,IA,KY,MS,AL,SC, and FL and Mexico. Hope to add GA to that list this year.

56 I think
I don't see a problem with the question asked in this thread.
I've harvested 35 birds, 31 of them gobblers, 4 of them jakes.
1 Merriams.
3 Rios.
7 Easterns.
24 Osceolas. :funnyturkey:

You should know brother, you should know!!!! LMFAO!!!! ;D :toothy9: :toothy12: :TooFunny:
But of course, I'm just jealous!!! :z-flirtysmile3: ;D
Dang, I was hoping Guesswho would disclose his number. Lol
Many more than I deserve (in 11 states). Mostly Easterns, 5 Rios, 2 Osceolas, 1 Merriams.
Man I love seeing those white caps coming through the woods!!!
I've been doing it 23 seasons now and Ive never kept count but I'm starting to wish I'd been more careful to take pictures and maybe write notes on them about the hunt itself...
I've killed 234 mostly easterns but several Rios and Merriams. Would like to get a Oceaola one year soon. I lost count on the deer long ago just not as important to me. I can still remember details of every turkey I killed and a lot I didn't kill. Actually I can remember better some of the ones that whipped me. Lol
Lost count a few years back, I know it's 200+ maybe 250 but I doubt it. The last 11 years I have averaged around 15 birds a year i think, last year was 19 and the year before 17. The years before those were all around the same numbers. some years 9 states some years 7 states. Mostly easterns, lots of rios, few dozen osceolas, and a couple dozen merriams. Been at it 28 years. I have a love hate relationship with the wild turkey. And my wife has a love hate relationship with me this time of year.
I'm going with 3 because I know for sure that I killed at least 1 more than my brother (Flydown) did.
As for guesswho, I would have put money on the fact that he killed at least 3 or 4.
Opening week was tough last year....
HC
I actually keep a spreadsheet of my kills with the date, state, county, place, bird number, beard length, spur length, weight, gun, ammo, distance, time, and anything else notable about the hunt. I never want to forget a single detail of a hunt....
This coming up season will be my tenth. Right now I am at 44 longbeards (10 of those just from last season). 31 easterns, 5 Merriams, 3 Osceolas, 5 Rios.

I'm gonna get number 3 this season, I just know it. I have seen so many gobblers this year deer hunting.
I have but one under my belt. He didn't come easy, and he's become a symbol to me of what hard work and perseverance can do when you refuse to give up on a goal. I have high hopes of adding to that number, and intend to start working on that in 23 days. I'm stoked!!
Killed my first 27 years ago this spring at the age of 9, a young hen in the fall. Got the bug to go out of state after my dad took my brother and I when I was 10 for a weeklong turkey hunting/camping trip to MO. I can stil remember hearing the three jakes walking through the leaves before I killed one, just like it was yesterday. I am so grateful my dad took us hunting. I could never repay him for that. Trying to pass it down to my two young sons. Not sure how many I have killed, have never counted, but I am more proud of the ones I have either called up for others or videoed.

Man, I wish I had your confidence.
I have hunted in 5 states and all my turkey's are eastern's total 98 so far.best turkey a tripled bearded hen at 17 and 3/4 .
I would really have to sit down & think hard, a few dozen I guess, mostly Easterns, some Rios & 2 Merriams. I hunt in the fall too, so probably as many hens & jakes as gobblers.

I don't have a kill number for Ronnie...But he's still not caught up with his Mamma.
Killed 4 in 2 years, but I hunted for 3 years before that before I finally connected.

I wish I was this detailed..... My wife is capable of such things but she's not my biggest fan this time of year.
I will give my standard answer to this question..
Not enough yet .. :)
Since 2000 I have killed 10, all easterns from the mountains of NC Pennsylvania. I would more than likely have killed a couple more if I would quit spending so much time flyfishing for trout when I could be turkey hunting. I can't help it I love both sports! ;D
I'm not really sure how many birds I have killed, I'm only 21, although I did kill my first two 16 years ago. I would guess around 45-50.
The important number to me would be 11..... number of people I have called in their first bird.
Lets see...started in 97. first kill in 98. Thats 14 years. Limited out in Ga. three times plus one in Fla. one of those years. Got skunked about 2 years ago. Killed two three times, I think :z-dizzy: I love turkey season...my wife hates turkey season...my boss hates turkey season...my dog hates turkey season. Only part my wife likes is when I give her a hand full of money and tell her to go to the beach.

She's ready to add to that total too. A couple more weeks!
Longspur, I think we are married to the same women. ???
Anyway, I have killed my share of birds and am still excited every year to get after more. I think more important than how many kills I have is how many hunts I have had whether or not I killed a bird or not. I have had many close encounters over the years that have resulted in me driving home alone but the memory of that hunt I will always remember.
Killing birds is good but to me, having a great hunt is just or more enjoyable. Don't mind chalking one up to the gobblers at all. My wife says my brain is smaller than a turkeys anyway. ;)
Killed #1 in 1976, last spring # 185 died. I have hunted hard for the past 35 some odd years. Only missing one year of hunting, and that was due to me volunteering to help liberate the people of Kuwait.
Started hunting Turkey 25 years ago.
I'm up to 137. Mostly Easterns.
Hunted Fl, AL, MS, TN, KY, MO, AR, TX, OK, KS, NE
I don't understand killing hens. I know it's legal at times, but not my thing.
Grew up where we had very few birds and a hen is Sacred to me.
Not bashing anyone, so please don't be offended.

Same here and I agree with you . . . but I guess that's a topic for another thread.

Not sure exactly. 40-45 would be my best guess. All Easterns save for 2 Gould's
I've been lucky enough to kill 13. Hopefully the good lord allows me to kill another.
28 for me.
This will be my 50th spring gobbler season. thank the Lord. Killed my first longbeard in WVa. in 1963 and a Fall bird in 1962. Many, many birds have fallen to the gun, bow and handgun in about 10 different states for me and the adults and kids I've taken. Met some great people and have seen some amazing country over those years; experiences that you couldn't put a price tag on. I simply pray for some more springs and thank a wonderful wife for putting up with the days away from home and some falling asleep when I shouldn't have.
