Trying to decide which choke to drop in my new nova. My local dealer stocks carlsons and I used them for my waterfowl gun but would really like to hear some opinions on their turkey chokes.

I tried a Carlsons .670, .660, and .640 in my Mossberg 535. The .660 was the best of the three, but was solidly outperformed by my SSX .643 and Indian Creek .660. They are well made chokes and have excellent customer service. I spoke with Scott Carlson at length several times and he was a pleasure to speak with. In the end, I went with the Indian Creek choke, but your gun might pattern very nicely with a Carlsons choke. My short barreled 535 hasn't been the easiest shotgun to get solid patterns out of.
I like Carlson's chokes for every application except Turkeys. I like Indian Creek chokes for that.
The Carlson's 655 and 660 both work very well in my BPS guns, one the 655 in a 22.5" bbl using 3" HV Win lead #6s and the 660 in a 26" bbl using Win 3-2-#6 loads.
Carlson makes the Cabela's chokes.
I suggest that before you purchase that choke contact Sumtoy Customs at 912-237-4360 and tell William what gun you have , bbl and what you plan to shoot shell wise. It may cost a few and I mean a few more dollars but you don't wind up buying three or four chokes trying to find what you want.

As do I. I also have a bunch of Carlson's waterfowl chokes, which is where I think they absolutely SHINE. I have patterned my Carlson's super steel chokes against many...MANY chokes costing up to three times as much and they held their own, easilly giving as dense and even a pattern in my shotguns with steel shot as the much more expensive brands. As for turkey chokes?...I think they are FANTASTIC in the 20 gauge,...like they were made for them, but I have never gotten a Carlson's turkey choke to pattern to what I would like to see.

I have been shooting their waterfowl chokes as well and have been incredibly impressed. Have decided to go with a sumtoy though for my turkey choke.
