This is the old Ginger or Mary Ann question. ( for you young guys : hot red head or hot brunette?) Which gets your motor running? Long thick beards or long spurs. While of course i like both, I relly dig a bird with big old hooks.
Big, sharp hooks!!! :z-winnersmiley:
Long thick beards! I can't tell how long spurs are until I'm standing on its neck
Paintbrush beards
Gman
On second thought, it doesn't really matter...I'll put a tag on either. :z-guntootsmiley:
I love seeing a bird with a thick paintbrush beard, but that's mostly because it makes me hope he has long sharp hooks to go with it. Spurs are where it's at.
When he is walking up to my setup, it's the beard. When I'm kneeling next to him, it's the spurs.
FullChoke
Spurs! Its like a Christmas present you don't know what you've got until you tear up the wrapping.

A big set of hooks = awesome.
Spurs!

Spurs, unless the bird has three or more good long beards, then I'll take the multi-beard.
Spurs!!! But I did kill a bird last year with 4 good beards that totaled 36" and it fired me up!!

Leg jewelry is what gets me fired up! :funnyturkey:

Hooks for sure!
Spurs!..No,no,no,no. Wait, Beards, no Fans...AHHHHHHHH! I don't no, I can't make up my mind. How about, Everything turns me on about spring turkey! :funnyturkey:
Its the hooks for me!
I don't care as long as the gobbler is legal. I do keep the beards and trash the legs with the spurs attached. At the time I kill the gobbler I look at both, but only keep the beard. But what turns me on is a pan of sliced breast meat frying up golden brown.

x2 I can't see them, so I do a "GROUND CHECK"
Spurs! It's the first thing I look at when I walk up to a downed bird.
I personally want some long spurs! I've got a couple 25plus lb birds and a 12" beard and several 11" plus beards! I've never broke the 1 1/4" spur tho! That is always my goal and what I look at every time I put a big ole redhead on the ground!
Spurs...

Spurs! I love a thick paintbrush to and multi bearded since they are pretty rare around here
Both get me going, but I'd have to go with some Sharp Ol' Hooks!
SPURS
A nice, long, thick rope of a beard gets my attention first. The spurs are the icing on the cake after the hammer is dropped!
Spurs! I find long spurs harder to obtain.
Look at my name!!!!!
hooks, beards are nice and u get to look before the shot , hooks are the icing for me
Definitely Spurs!

Spurs
I like em both, who doesn't like a big fat Sagdaddy beard or spurs that could be used as lethal weapons.
If I couldn't have both and had to choose one or the other, I'd go with the long (1.5 inch or better) hooked spurs. ;D
HC
I've been told most guys like a nice big pair........... of spurs. :goofball: :goofball: :goofball:
SPURS!
Spurs no Doubt! I'll take a 4" beard on sharp 1.25+" spurs over a 12" beard on some dinky year and half old spurs any day of the season.
SPURRRRRSSS!!
Definetely a nice pair of Spurs!
Chicks dig em!!
Spurs.. still on the quest for my first set of 1 1/2"rs
Love a big paint brush beard swinging when one is coming in...Kind of gets the heart pumping that much more before the shot.
Once he's on the ground, I guess I'm more excited if I get up to him and he's got some hooks on him though....
Spurs....and Mary Ann.
Let me think ,,,,,uummm,,,,,,,BIG OLE HOOKEDSPURS :z-guntootsmiley:
While long and fat beards are nice , you can't beat a pair of long, hooked daggers!! :you_rock:

That's awesome right there!
The beard :icon_thumright: Seeing a bird working toward you with a rope swinging puts me in border-line cardiac arrest.
Spurs are nice, too, but the beard gets the party started!
The beard is what starts it for me, once down the spurs are where its at.
Spurs, Love flipping a bird over to a big set of hooks.
I talked to a call maker in NY this past spring that scouts hard with a spotting scope before season, said he doesnt pull the trigger unless he knows that bird is sporting serious hardware. Its extreme but he sure had a collection of hooks.
I like birds with multiple beards, thats a real treat! :z-winnersmiley:
I keep both for proud display but rarely bother with the fan anymore, take up too much room on the wall.
I think the spurs are more the sign of a trophy. But, i've never seen spurs before I pulled the trigger so it's a matter of good fortune is I get a long spurred bird. I shoot what presents itself, and, if more than one comes in, I take the more dominant acting bird when possible.
I certainly appreciate a big old paintbrush beard tho. :icon_thumright:
Both, but man I love beards. Got a double and a triple beard but to be honest a big fat thick paintbrush beats it all
HOOKS!!

Hooks for sure. Even a 2 yr old can sport a thick 10" beard, but only old birds have a set of long sharp spurs

SPURS ! :newmascot:
I'll take a set of 1.25"+ hooks any day of the week over an 11" beard.
Its all about the hooks for me.
Not saying a big ol paintbrush wont get me pumping though.
Gslam95 now thats some serius jewlery.
I guess before I pull the trigger it is neither. If a bird comes in with a full beard or is able to full strut - he dies!
Now when he hits the ground I want to see his hooks. I am very proud of the two sets of spurs I have that over 1.5". That is nearly unheard of where we hunt. I have killed several with 10" beards.
:icon_thumright: Nice Daggers everyone!
I love the sight of a long beard swing as a gobbler comes in, but that feeling when you grab him and see hooks cannot be beat! SPURS!!!
But, then again, I love getting on an over eager two year old that gobbles at everything, runs in and puts on a good show. I just love turkey hunting!
Long spurs and Ginger for me!
After killing several birds with impresive beards doubles, and one single that went 12.5" I have to say spurs just because the best I ever got was like 1 1/8" or so.

This explains it best. Even though last year was my first try... it all seemed surpising and exciting!
Long spurs win by a longshot

Spurs for me.
Spurs all the way

The full fan gets my attention first. I see that, the hammer is going down.
However, the first thing I check is the spurs. It is really cool to see a big ol' pair of hooks!
doesnt really matter long as its a red head. red on the head fire in the hole
Spurs are my trophy....beards come and go....mites, fire, freeze, etc.....
