Title: If you plan to buy ammo of any kind... don't put it off!
Post by: lightsoutcalls on January 09, 2013, 12:35:30 PM
I recently bought a Ruger LC9 with the intent of getting my CCW soon.  I have been looking at ammo options and prices online for about a week.  I have noticed that numerous selections (bullet weight, type, brand) have been deleted from several websites (sold out).  Several websites have notations that due to huge order increases, shipping may take 3 weeks for orders placed.

We all know why the rush, so I won't get started...

I just placed an order on Lucky Gunner, which notes they will ship by 3PM of the same day ordered.  I have read a lot of good reviews on this site and they note that they will not subject their customers to the long waits that other sellers do...  Hope they come through.

Long story short... If you have plans of buying any ammo, you need to do it before it runs out.

My brother bought 600 rds of .223 today. Walmart got a truck in and he got most of it. He called me and I had him go back to buy the rest for me, but it was already gone. You can find alot of pistol calibers here
http://www.freedommunitions.com/default.asp

Sold my Ruger LCP .380 last night. Gonna stick with my XD40. Need to order some more rounds for it come to think of it.

It's my understanding that shooting remanufactured ammo voids the warranty on some handguns - Glock and Ruger included.

Springfield will not fix damage or a condition caused by a remanned load, but it still carries the limited warranty. I don't believe Ruger actually carries a warranty but they have great CS.

Freedom also sells new ammo, and they have it in stock if that strikes your fancy.

Walmart is the spot to get ammo

You have to understand they are the worlds biggest retailer and the vendors are under contract to provide them a steady supply -as in no gouging

I always pick up a box or two , and they have a good selection of HPoints in many pistol sizes

.223 ? no telling when that will level out , the anti's have the AR's in the crosshairs -The hi-capacity mags are the item to keep your eyes on, if you want another mag for your glock of AR , try to get that soon ,

When ever this POS legislation surfaces in washington , when mention of certain things like Hi-Cap mags , or a certain model of gun are mentioned - there will be a run on them and the price will go through the roof -

I will call it right now..... they will try or will  impose a super restrictive jacked up tax on all ammunition, firearms , and , components to pay for some kind of federal gun program - they will market it to the media in that manner

The time to have stocked up on ammo was last year while there was meat still on the bone.  If you have to buy it now your fighting over scraps.

If you need certain hard to find loads, check Gunbroker.  it isn't hard and can be shipped directly to you unlike a firearm.  It isn't best prices sometimes, but you can get what you need sometimes when locals and other internet sources are out.  Usually all it takes is emailing a scan of your driver's license to the seller.

Their hauling it out by the truck loads....again WE are causing our own problem, just like the primer problem from 3-5 years ago.. when will we ever learn.. I live very near one of the largest if not thee largest gun shops in the northeast and what I've seen over the last month is amazing. Thousands of semi auto AR platforms with raised prices going out the door and the fools buying them for $300-500  more than they were before Christmas, the only ones laughing are the manufacturers and the dealers. Why is it that we react so quickly to only a mention of anything in our world.. best part is you can't even use anything built on an AR platform for any type of hunting in PA !! AMAZING

Its not about using them (AR 15's) for hunting. Instead it is about being on the same level playing field as the criminals who obtain assault weapons illegally. I don't trust our government to protect my family when/if laws are passed that put me at a disadvantage. I refuse to be a victim and if I felt that buying an AR at a much higher price would prevent that, I would gladly pay the extra money. I am sure alot of these "nuts" that are stocking up on guns and ammo now have this same mindset. All I can say is that I am glad that I seen this coming and have already planned for it. Good luck and God bless those who haven't.

At work we have a contract and we get ammo before it hits the civilian market. We are waiting on 10k rounds and they are sending it to us 500-1k at a time as ammo become available. Its craziness right now.

I believe that the "reaction" is valid if you look at how fast Biden and Eric Withholder are going for legislation. Biden scared me when he hinted that "executive orders" could be in play. We have a president that believe that in order to get something done you go around the process of hammering things out in the House and Senate and issue an executive order. That is how he operates.
So, that concerns me that he could use that to get whatever it is that they want.

I want someone to also answer me this question.......WHY DOES ERIC HOLDER STILL HAVE A JOB???

I checked with several stores in our area, including 1 big box store and they are literally out of most ammo. Even .22 shells are all gone.

Thanks,
Clark

It's crazy here as well. I literally bought the last box of ammo from a local store. Called to verify he had ammo in stock, said he had 20 boxes, took me 12 minutes to drive there, and I was able to buy the only box he had left.

Stores around the panhandle of WV are sold out.  When you bring up local gun shop appreciation day on January 19th, they shake their heads.  Everything is sold out.  When you see it, buy it, or it's gone.  I have seen people buying guns that weren't what they wanted just because they were afraid they'd get nothing.  It's a sad state of affairs, however, saying "wait till the panic is over" might not be good advice.  With the things we've seen here in America these past 4 years, demand we've seen the past few weeks might be nothing before it's all said and done.

...the gun shops have been warning us this would happen.  I've been told for the past year, "ammo is hard to come by."  "Buy it when you can."  It's a shame.  Used to just go buy a box of whatever you needed when you need it.  Now everyone's buying in bulk and the shelves are empty out of fear.  The liberals have driven gun loving folks to buying and hoarding.  There is more ammo out there in circulation than ever before...same thing with AR's and Magpul magazines.  Folks who never would have chosen that gun are buying BECAUSE they won't be told they CAN'T have it.

Sad thing is...drunk drivers and gangs kill more innocent people than gun loving American's.  We have more respect for human life.

Went to Cabelas yesterday and bought ten boxes of pistol ammo (their limit per customer) and they actually had a normal inventory of ammunition. I was surprised but they were real thin on pistols and there were at least twenty people waiting to get their firearms. I could not find one Ruger in their cases to look at other than one revolver.

I got an email from Lucky Gunner with my tracking number.  My package is on a truck in an adjacent town currently.  It should arrive today.  Hopefully I can run a few rounds through my new LC9 this weekend.

I honestly would rather have spent the money on some new treestands or a new blind than the little Ruger... but... they would be hard to carry concealed and likely wouldn't stop a "zombie".   ::)

I talked to a friend this morning that is one of the largest wholesale distributors in the nation.  I was told that right now ammo companies are focusing their production on rifle and pistol ammunition due to demand.
Speculating of course......but, could it be that there is more mark-up in rifle/pistol ammo than there is in shotgun turkey loads?  Was also told they were given no definite date of when we would see more Federal Heavyweight produced.

And who's causing the shortages.... WE ARE  ...!! Our HOARDING and GREED are to blame! Gotta get it before some one else does is the attitude when they arrive at gun shops.. SAD BUT TRUE .. You'll see tons more being manufactured, cost will rise 25-40% and you'll be able to buy all you want in a few months at the new costs. Why is that we shooters and the hunters do this to ourselves every time someone rattles the bushes.. what fools we are, we fall every time for the same ole' ploy.. Didn't we learn anything from what we just did to ourselves over the so-called primer shortages!! What jerks we all are, we believe every rumor as if it were written in the good book! Some day we'll learn hopefully

If you want to call yourself a jerk and a fool, have at it.  However, you might want to reconsider calling the rest of us names just because we might not see things exactly as you see it.  If some knothead who gets a rise out of all of the media hype about "shooters" decides to make a name for himself in a public place where you are, I hope you don't have to rely on that ammo that you are waiting a few months to buy.

OK. I agree we as hunters & shooters (also all other concerned citizens) are causing the prices to skyrocket due to our Hoarding, but I disagree with your term GREED. Instead it is more like fear. The worthless politicans that we have in charge of us right now are the real ones to blame. The American people cant trust them to do the right thing. Our constitution is being trampled over daily and now are Second Amendment is being targeted to. It is my right to be able to defend all that belongs to me (home, family, & self) in our troubled nation & I like many others don't believe they are going to protect us when every thing comes to a head. If this means having a large supply of whatever I think is necessary to get this done (ammo & weapons at the top of the list), this my friend is not GREED but instead is SURVIVAL. Who knows what laws will be passed and how it will effect everything from hunting to protection. All I know is that I refuse to be a victim in any way shape or form. As a law abiding citizen, why should I be restricted to what I can buy/use, how much ammo I can have, etc? The fact is that our government is to large and my rights are paying the price. What is going on is not happening due to rumors, but instead is due to a nation that is becoming divided daily and is crumbling. I would rather go into panic mode and be prepared than be naive and think that everything will be fine. If this makes me greedy than so be it but at least I am giving myself a fighting chance.

most people just don't get it,they seem to think that they are safe if they have 5,000 rds of ammo and 50 guns stored away some where.
the sad thing is,is the ammo and gun manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank because of people's "got to have before it's gone attitude"
