Title: Benelli Super Vinci choke suggestion?
Post by: mcgruff1533 on January 08, 2013, 03:49:11 PM
My nephew has a 12 ga Super Vinci and wants to try Turkey hunting this Spring.   I don't know the first thing about Benellis, so I figured I would ask here.    Anyone have a good starting place for choke/ load combo out of a 26" barrel with the Crio choke profile?    All he has now are the factory supplied chokes, but I'm willing to help him find a specialized Turkey choke.

I'm running two Vincis -- one's a 24" and the other's a 28." They aren't the 3.5" super, but I doubt there'd be a ton of difference.

I know firsthand that many shotguns are individualistic when it comes to turkey chokes. That's not the case with my Vincis. They shoot like two peas on a pod. I've also found they don't mind a dirty barrel. In fact, the first pattern after a good cleaning is generally not stellar. I just pull a boresnake thru between shots and keep shooting. They simply aren't very temperamental.

I mainly run two Jeb's chokes -- a .660" and a .665". The tighter choke does very well with Hevi-13 #6 shot. It'll put 140+ in the 10" ring when the weather's cool and patterns are really thick in warm weather.

The .665" is my primary choke. It throws a remarkably wide even pattern with Hevi-13 #7s thru a wide range of temps. While I can squeeze more in the 10" ring with tighter chokes, the effective width of patterns with that shot/choke combination is 18-20" at 40yd. Conversely, that choke throws remarkably tight patterns with Hevi-13 #5s. I've posted a couple of patterns with both chokes in the patterning section.

I've also had great success with a Rhino .660" -- very tight with both Hevi-13 #6s and #7s. Again, I've posted some representative patterns in patterning section with this choke too.

Put a 650 to a 660 in it.  It will like the Winchester and HV13 shells.  It should bump the 280 to 290 mark with the 7's
