Title: Loudest slate call - Hooks or DeadEnd
Post by: tenringtaylor on January 01, 2013, 08:51:13 PM
I'm looking for a new slate with good volume without loosing the pure turkey bottom. Does anyone have experience with the Hooks slate or the DeadEnd slate. Both claim to have good volume. Any help would be appreciated.... Thanks

i don't have any experience with those calls but i had one made by Ed Jenkins(Ghost Maker Calls).  He is great to work with and he will make your call as you want it.  They are some awesome sounding calls and i know for a fact that they can get loud.  Plus his handmade calls may cost less than those calls.  Look him up.

From your question I gather that you understand there is a difference between just being loud and sounding good at a distance.  That's very perceptive and correct.

Some loud calls just don't sound very convincing from far off.

I haven't used either of those calls you mention but in my experience Perfection's Screamin Demon II does exactly what you are looking for.
