Title: Devotion, Tuesday, 9-18-12
Post by: Duke0002 on September 18, 2012, 03:58:25 PM
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life" (Psalm 23:6).

King David tell us that he will be followed by God's goodness and mercy forever.  Certainly earthly goodness and mercies followed David.  His life proved that.  Even though he was a vile sinner, God followed David with mercy and grace throughout his life.

Can we have that confidence, too?  We have committed sins much like David.  Our hearts have held sin that would shame anyone.  The answer: Yes!  We have that confidence in the goodness and mercy of God in Christ Jesus.  As David repented, we too can repent of our disgusting sins and ask the Lord for a clean heart and a right spirit.

St. Paul writes that we were dead in our sins and yet God "made us alive together with Christ" (Ephesians 2:5).  It's never a question of "do I need forgiveness?"  If you breathe and your heart is beating, you do indeed need forgiveness in Christ.  The question is, are you willing to accept the cleansing God offers you?

Our gracious Lord follows you all the days of your life, pleading with you to put off your sin and your attempts at self righteousness.  He pursues you, holding out to you His goodness and mercy found in the Savior.

Jesus changed eternity for you with His suffering, death and resurrection.  Each day He's alert and ready to take away your filth and replace it with His clean righteousness.  Reach out in faith and receive this gift.  Live confidently, that His goodness and mercy follow you.

It's so much better to live clean in His grace than to hold tightly to your filthy sin.  Grasp your holy eternity and never let go!

One thing I like about David, he may have made mistakes but he never duplicated the same one twice! He repented and learned from them. Thank God for forgiveness!
