Title: Inv. vs Inv.+
Post by: hawk on August 02, 2012, 02:09:50 PM
Is there any noteable differences in the numbers these chokes put up at 40yds. I found a older BPS Stalker w/3" chamber that just feels right and was just wondering if the inv.+ barrel is really any better.

IMO its hands down no comparison, Inv + seems to be easier to get the best patterns from!

I have both invector and Inv+ barrels for my BPS. The invector is a 20.5" bbl with the turkey/deer choke ,rifled choke and sights; the inv+ is 22" and has the bead sight only.
So I don't have exactly the same length bbls. but my choice for turkey hunting is the slightly longer inv+ for the overall pattern coverage. Both have a smothering kill pattern at 40 yards and I would not hesitate to use either.
I do know that the turkey/deer choke in the invector bbl will put all 12 Federal 00 buckshot in a 11" circle at 40 yards when using their flite control wad and copper-plated shot in the 3" shell and that is hard to beat or even tie.
So, if I wanted best all around I would lean toward the inv.
Strictly turkey or wing shooting it is the inv+ for me.
I realize that this may not help you and may not have answered your question exactly.

Note: Edited 7" circle to 11" on 8/4 after realizing my erroneous statement.

I own several guns with both systems and all of them shoot very well. It's like a lot of other things in this shooting business, it all depends upon the gun.

It's hard to go wrong with a BPS. They have some of the best factory barrels in the business.

Thanks,
Clark

If the money is good buy it.  Both will shoot and shoot good.  The Invector likes smaller chokes.  Now I would pick the old invector barrel if I had both on the table and the money was the same.   :icon_thumright:

Both will shoot.  If you find a choke that the INV+ barrel really likes, it's lights out.  For me, it was an Indian Creek BDS SS .665

Every shell I've patterned in my INV+ BPS has beaten the same patterns from the same brand and diameter of choke in my 870.  My BPS and choke are not for sale!!!!!!!!!

However, I once had a Standard INV Mossberg 500 that shot pretty good too.  Getting the choke right for the shell you use is the key.

Indeed.  The Inv+ barrels are backbored too, but with today's loads and chokes, I doubt you will find any practical difference.
